Call of Duty: World at War - Image 1

The Call of Duty franchise has certainly made Activision a whole lot of money. The company made millions with last year's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) alone. In fact it's still making money on the game thanks to downloadable content.

That last part - downloadable content - is what Activision will be focusing on for Call of Duty: World at War (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, Wii, DS) in order to "increase online monetization". According to Activision Publishing CEO Mike Griffith, the game will reportedly have three times the amount of DLC that CoD4 had.

Another one of Activision's monetization approaches is the introduction of something called "Day One Advantage", which essentially lets those who avail of it earn experience points faster. Want to level up fast? In CoD5, you can - as long as you have the money.

While lots of DLC is usually a good thing (the only problem is that there's a chance the publisher will release a very barebones game that can only be fully enjoyed if you purchase and download oodles of DLC), the Day One Advantage promo could end up raising gamers' hackles.

And yet, hundreds of people will buy it!

Bah. I'll stick with Warhawk through 2009 as well.

3 times the DLC? I guess that means 3 expansion packs, as COD4 only had one. I doubt the game will seem like it's missing anything when it launches. Don't forget that Treyarch has been developing the game basically since COD3 came out. There's no reason why they would just release the game with like, 8 maps or something. the DLC would be released periodically, definitely not back to back.

Until COD6,

WW2 shooters are so boring, recycled, unoriginal, and no fun.
