Ó

We've stated our own thoughts on the matter. Some of you who have already been able to play the game(s) may have your own two cents worth about it as well. But for those who don't have Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed on the PS3 and/or Xbox 360, you still might be all asking that age old question: which version looks better?

PS3-360 comparison videos aren't something new. But now, here it is: a comparison video putting together the same clips from both versions of Assassin's Creed side by side. Note: just in case you haven't played the game, certain clips in the video contain potential spoilers for you, so be warned.

The clip shows one difference people can easily point out: it's that the PS3 version has "smoother" edges, while the 360 version has "crisper" lines. That observation has already been made apparent in most other comparison videos. What's cool here though is that at one point, the video moves in for a 300% zoom in on both version. That's an interesting part you might want to look out for.

Now, you can make your own conclusions. How noticeable are the differences? And for what it's worth, how much do these differences matter to you? That's for you to decide. Keep those comments clean, guys. Time to show and tell.

 » 360

360 looks better because of lighting and slightly more detail. I hope, one day, that a PS3 game will look as good as its 360 counterpart.

 » PS3

The lighting looks more natural on the PS3, what are you talking about, the PS3 also seems slightly more blurru, but on the Zoom it made sense because you could see jagged edges on the 360 version. But apart from that they are the same.

 » To holo3x3

There are many PS3 games that look equal to or better than the 360 versions. Everyone agrees Oblivion, Dirt, and FullAuto look better for example.

 » What another boring comparison???

I tell you these websites must love flame wars between xbox360 and ps3 owners, i personally find it tedious...oh well.

My two cents worth, the Xbox360 version looks better than the ps3 version unquestionably, ( it could well be doctored to look this poor) however I do believe the ps3 can and will produce equally if not better visuals than this ( uncharted maybe??), that is of course if this comparison was made buy a neutral and totally unbaised individual, which if it came from the likes of gametrailers is highly questionable.

I think that we all know that while the ps3 has a far more powerful and flexible processor than the xbox's cpu, the xbox's GPU is better than the rsx, so why do people still need comparisons?

 » Comparison

The ps3 version isnt as shiney as the 360 version is all i see, and a lil less color. But the color really matters on the TV and settings you have on your game. To me they look the same in that there isnt a huge difference, its all good with me.

I got it for both and i dont know what TV they are using for the PS3 but damn sure dont look like that on mines at all. Its actually more like the one they said was the 360 very but with%

 » boring comparison

the PS3 version looked as though they'd dropped the contrast below regular standards...

If this is an unbiased comparison then it looks like a simple tweak of the lighting settings is all that would be required to get both versions looking IDENTICLE.

in the videos shown, anyone who says the PS3 version looks better is deluding themselves, it looks murky and horrible.

 » Colors?

PS3 version looks pretty washed out, Turning up the color saturation on your TV should fix that. Otherwise they look identical.

Just buy it for whatever system you want.

My ps3 sure as hell dont look blurry like that. 360 obviously looks better here but i know this is not a correct comparison.

Still, the ps3 version doen't lag, lol. 1 to 1! :D

 » the comparison

ok i own it didnt play it yet but from what i see and alot of other would say the same thing well in some parts of comparing, i seen in one part ps3 version brighter, same with the 360 and in another part i seen one darker then then the other i really dont see to much of a differnce but then a again like the one person said about the hdtv that were used had to be *****ty cause the video looked like crap on it but that what i think

   by platon - 2007-11-16
 » I think I understand

Sometimes they are clouds in the game, and when it's cloudy, the colors always look washed, like what we saw on the ps3 version. And when it's not cloudy, the colors are more vibrant.

Anyway, my colors look better than this (playing on ps3), because in this video, the x360 colors are WAY better!

Still, like I said before, even if it was true that the ps3 had less beautifull colors, at least the ps3 version doesn't lag at all, lol. The 1.3 gig install is great :D.

 » nah..

the 360 version doesn't lag too bad u don't have a 360 the better version is great since I got both a ps3 + 360 I get the best version of games always +
this time around it's the 360
   by Shatterdome - 2007-11-17
 » Once again...

360 beats the PS3 in per pixel HDR lighting...

360 has a much wider range of values then PS3, and it's always been this way and may always be this way since the 360 has potentially twice as many pixel shaders as PS3 (which are used for lighting and normal/bump mapping) this is why you see darker "blacks" in the 360 version, and whiter whites, as well as more detail in the "300% zoom"

This is all video card based, and unfortunately PS3 doesn't have as good as a video card as 360, so Cell can eat ass....

Try try again...

Dude, your fanboy-ism could take down an army army. Next-gen graphics are cool, but definitely DON'T forget about the gameplay. When used together just right, the right combination of beautiful graphics and massively entertaining gameplay can be the difference between "any other game" and a God of games.

   Re: eaglebaize - 2007-11-17
 » XD woops

I apologize for the double-post, but I acknowledge that I said "army" twice in my previous post. Lol, oh well. People make mistakes, not necessarily big mistakes all the time, but they DO make them nonetheless.
   by Shatterdome - 2007-11-17
 » oh ya....platon....

360 version "lags" you say....ALL reviews have said that the framerate on the PS3 is MUCH worse then the 360, and is so bad that it makes the game unplayable near the end.

Also, you have no clue what you are talking about.....the "colours" do not change between 360 and PS3.....it's the range of tones that change....360 goes from 0% (true black) to 100%(true white), whereas the PS3 is somewhere between 30-80% and does not give the same amount of contrast and realism as the 360.....but this is nothing new....360 has always owned PS3 as far as per pixel HDR lighting and bump/normal mapping is concerned......

Also, because PS3 does not have free 4X FSAA, they are using a gausian blur on the picture, which is not accurate at all, but gives the illusion of being softer....thing is, it's not accurate and doesn't just blur the edges...it blurs the ENTIRE framebuffer and makes EVERYTHING look blurry.......no thanks....

 » in the end..

It isnt the hardware limitatons of both platforms that make these games look bad its down to software developement, simply put, ubisoft messed up real bad optimising AC.

 » opinions

there is a joke that we only need to people to have 3 points of view.
Well with MS & Sony this seems to be true. Some people like softer tones (PS) others prefer a more defined harder line with the risk of jaggies (MS) put this to one side and then consider the overall playable entertainment factor.
Games which are multi platform will always be compared for several reasons but under users its very often a case of reinforcing their decision for the platform of choice.
What I as a consumer find fault with the PS is that they had 18 months delay on their console with respect to MS but the level of technology introduced at this later time is not equal to the advancement of the overall technology available. That there is no "in your face and cannot dispute how much better the PS looks" is in my opinion a failure. Had both consoles been released at the same time then these comparisons would be relevant. Hats off to MS for an older concept console equaling todays cream of tech.

 » move along

im thinking the obviously different contrast was so you can see the difference between the two on one screen. just use a solid bar and make a real comparison. also IMO ps3 looks nicer with smoother lines.

   by na2rul - 2007-11-17
» My LCD TV does that

Has a verticle split facility for visual cmparison of display contrast.

Q is, how did GT.com compile the video?

   by i3obtl - 2007-11-17
 » PS3 vs 360

Any one can change the settings to make either comparison go in their favor.

Suggestion, play it on both systems and judge for yourself. Everyone needs to remember that the architecture of the 360 is more like a standard PC( remember, I said similar ) and developers have had more than a year with the 360 SDK.

The PS3's SDK is different, but take a look at the comments developers are posting now. Most say that after they get used to it, they want to do more games on the PS3.

Both systems will get better with time, developers just need to get used to the SDKs for both systems first.

Personally, I think the games that are available for each system really determine who buys what, not the graphics. Just look at all the old school games out there. The graphics suck, but they are still funner than half the crap out now.

Simple, right.

There wasn't much of a difference at all besides the usual brightness and darkness differences.

Except for in one scene...

Is this a joke or something? I don't know what they did to the PS3 side in that scene, but that definitely doesn't look anything like the game does on my friends TV.
It looks like you are watching a PS1 game with glaucoma.

Um, I didn't bother to watch it further than the first few seconds due to the fact that the PS3 version has its contrast turned up to high making it appear blurry and the Xbox more clean.

 » My take

In this comparision, the 360 version appeared better. However, I don't trust GameTrailers too much for comparision. Even the comparisions for Oblivion were skewed in favour of the 360 (and I've played Oblivion on both platforms and my opinion is that PS3 Oblivion trumps the 360 version in all aspects), and that makes me think the individuals recording these comparisions are not completely honest.

@Shatterdome: By the way, to what Shatterdome says above regarding PS3 AC framerate, it just so happens that Gamespot reviews say that it's the 360 version of AC that has the framerate problem. The PS3 version has no such problems. Read the link and stop lying:
http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/assassinscreed/review.html?page=2&sid=6182795
Anywhere where there are '+' signs in the URL, substitute with an '=', i.e. equals sign. And if you are too lazy or biased to read the truth, I'll paste the link here for you:
"PS3 owners are blessed with a slightly more solid frame rate, although the 360 version features a little more contrast in the lighting, so it's pretty much a wash. But regardless of which platform you go with, you'll have an amazing and unforgettable game."
