Bungie will be throwing in some free exploration elements into the Halo equation in the upcoming Halo 3: ODST. In an interview with the Seattle Times, Bungie also revealed that they've added in some mystery-solving elements as well. "We're doing a lot of pretty neat things in terms of mixing it up, introducing some non-linearity, some free exploration," said Joseph Staten. "This is also a mystery story so there's a lot more clue-finding and mystery-solving than you would normally find in a game of this kind - nothing that strays too far from the fun Halo experience, but we definitely decided to take a little bit of risk and have some fun with this one." ODST takes place before Halo 3. Players take on the role of an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper and must search through the ruins of New Mombasa and discover what happened to his missing teammates. The interview also touched slightly on the much more mysterious Halo: Reach, which Bungie president Harold Ryan thinks could be enabled with Microsoft's new Natal technology. Bungie's apparently already gotten a look at the new tech, so don't be surprised if it turns out to be one of Reach's features. Related articles:

How are supposed to fire a weapon? shake our hands like in EyeToy? That's ridiculous. Natal may be a good idea, but I don't think it will ever be used in the hardcore market.

» Well, I think natal is revolutionary.
Aslong as they use have fake weapon controllers.
Think about it, to shoot you would press the trigger button, and to reload you could actually do the the animation with your hands.
Aslong as they use game specific controllers, I can see a lot of use for the body tracking in the game. :)

» Wrong
The whole point of Natal is to get rid of the controller, so by having game specific controllers it defies the main point of it. In my opinion Natal is just a fancy eye toy.

» Natal.... Hmmm...
Maybe they could use the facial recognition so see if the player is getting frustrated and adjust the difficulty. I mean think about it, sure the Natal was shown off like you can use it with your whole body, but the Milo video showed that it's not limited to just full body controlling, but the system being able to see you and react to you.

» TrackIR
If they could make Natal work like TrackIR does, it would really enhance fps, driving, flying, and perhaps some other types of games.
How does TrackIR work?

its so you can trash talk the fat player on the otherside? when he claims his girlfriend/wife is yelling in the background but its really his milf of a mom? lol I don't know. I don't see how it will be useful towards a shooter, maybe RTS games will benefit from Natal I think...Halo Wars and C&C could be cool if you had a better interface

As if Reach didn't disappoint me enough, if they tack on that Natal crap it'll just be the end of Bungie in my eyes. Halo 1 - 3. Then Halo 3 prequel and then a Halo super prequel. After Reach it'll be Halo : Modern Warfare. The prequel that takes place in 2006

Halo "reach" will have you using the natal to try and grab objects that are just out of the MC's reach......revolutionary new use of the Natal technology branded with Halo for mass consumption....
