Colin McRae:Dirt

We have earlier reported about Colin McRae making a comeback on next-gen consoles. Well recently, Codemasters have christened their rally racing game with an official name - Colin McRae: DIRT. Codemasters also confirmed that the game will launch for the PlayStation3, the Xbox 360, and PC simultaneously in 2007. A special edition for mobile phones will also be available from Codemasters Mobile. Another feather in the cap for the 8-million+ selling rally racing series!

Colin McRae: DIRT is being packaged as the most diverse and exhilarating off-road racing experience ever with sensational gravel, mud and dirt events the world over. Events will include the series’ intense point-to-point races and then take players further off-road than ever before.

I've always enjoyed the World Rally Challenge (WRC) whenever I get the chance to watch it, and I could only hope to drive that well and navigate with ease. This game will enable you to race in challenging heavyweight 850bhp cars, drifting on the loose gravel and high-speed blind corners of Hill Climb events along perilous cliff edges. All 12.4 miles of the world famous Pikes Peak International is included, with over 150 precarious turns to negotiate through the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Now, that's a challenge in any language!

Multiple car races is also possible with Dakar-style trucks and super-powered 4x4s on the toughest desert terrain in Rally Raid competitions. The game is also amped with Rally Cross events, switching between dirt and road racing, where the competition is always tight, fast and collisions with your opponents are inevitable. Now, this would really test your versatility and reflexes!

With more off-road racing styles to be revealed, Colin McRae: DIRT will also offer a dedicated mode for European, International and Global rally championships featuring official 2WD, 4WD, Classic and RWD rally cars. With an incredible range of off-road vehicles, thrill-packed tracks, modes that make the most of online multiplayer, and more varied events than any other single-championship rally game, Colin McRae is being reborn as a bigger, faster, wilder racing experience. Codemasters can't go wrong with that equation. For now, here are some of the game's screens.

 » Not in-game.

I was on a forum and they had a link that said these are not in game shots but concepts of what they want it to look like. So dont start pissing your pants just yet. Wait for real screen shots.

"I've always enjoyed the World Rally Challenge (WRC)"

Really? I personally prefer the world rally championship, never realised there was a challenge too!

On a serious note, i cant wait for this game, have loved the series all the way through although colin mcrae 05 was a bit of a disapointment compared to the previous title. I remember seeing a preview of colin mcrae 4 before the ps2 was released, it looked amazing. Its a shame the final game didnt look so polished.

Im also surprised that codemasters are still using Colin McRae for their franchise. He did retire from WRC a few years back (well he was dropped really). Im glad that the name hasn't changed however, Colin is a legend and he is dearly missed in WRC, he was a real crowd pleaser. Maybe im only saying this cuz im Scottish, but even still, he's still my hero!

 » No

No it isn't the 'whose line is it anyways?' guy.
Pre-Render wooooooooooooooo personally qj shouldnt post stuff like this, most of us want hard facts and real screenshots. There is no point of getting us hyped up for a currently pre-rendered game.

judging from the wrc graphics on the ps2 and how well it pushes the system, i don't doubt that this new version will look like those screens on the ps3.

PS3 FTW!!

 » its not prerendered

the screens are from the ingame engine not a target video, its like calling the mgs demo at E3 pre-rendered and yes i hate to admit it but if the game looks anything like that then motorstorm really has to show up. still waiting to see the crash scenes.

ps. damn look at the second pic, no blurr but yet

"man i hope they include all the wrc drivers and their cars in this game"

Aint gonna happen, sony have the license for the use of the official WRC. Its a shame cuz the WRC games seem to go more downhill has the years go on.
