Great news for Virtua Fighter fans: looks like the Xbox 360 version will have a feature the PS3 won't: online functionality.

Characters - Image 1

Frank Caron, programmer for VF5, previously explained why it would be hard to incorporate the features due to the inevitable lag taking away the pinpoint accuracy players needed in battle - a quality of the game that made it so popular among hardcore gamers.

For this reason multiplayer functionality wasn't built into the game and he also noted that there's no way to go around this. Note that all these are in past tense now. Somehow, they managed to get around it for the 360 and its Xbox Live network. The online function doesn't support multiplayer outside a versus mode though.

Players will get to choose from 17 different characters or can customize one in Quest Mode. They can choose from four different outfits, and a number of accessories and items they can unlock or buy in the game. Aside from the new online function, the 360 version will also experience:
  • The latest arcade version update
  • Analogue-stick and D-pad control
  • Vibration support
  • Improved Quest mode with more CPU rivals, items, and emblems for character customisation
  • DOJO mode has added features including leaderboards, training move settings, improved throw and escape training, and the option to change your opponent’s position and recovery type
Watch out for Virtua Fighter 5's release on the Xbox 360 Autumn 2007. Meanwhile, here are some more screenshots to keep you satiated you until then.

I bought this game for PS3 thinking it would be better for the PS3 and not having to wait almost 6 months for the game to be released. 360 version is going to have multiplayer!!!! DAMN IT! I reeeeally, reeeeally hope the release a patch for the ps3 version to allow multiplayer. God damit, if you cant get into the game it doesnt mean it sucks. This is one of those games that you have to actually harness your moves and abilities, you cant just jump right into it. Think of it like an rpg in the sense that you need to analyze the game and controls and such before you can truely appreciate the game.

But damit, I love this game so much that I am actually willing to buy it for the 360 just to be able to play online. I bet those gamers in japan kill any competetion i've come across in Delaware.

 » I agree...

It's been awhile since I played VF, but I remember that you really did have to think about your moves more and there was virtually no button mashing....I didn't mind too much as most of the fighters back then required thinking....other then tekken, which just seemed to be combinations of front and back on the D pad and punch or kick.

The thing is, I havn't played it in awhile, but if it's even more anal then in the past, there is a point to be made with the MP.

Even street fighter lagged too much to be playable online, and I hear it hasn't changed much. The thing was, it wasn't even laggy....the connection was great but you could tell that .1 second difference.

This also happened in EA's Fight Night....round 2 would suffer from lag horribly online and it was almost impossible to time your shots, so in Round 3 they just slowed the gameplay down so that the internet could keep up....this is still a slight diff, but not much...

So we will see how online pans out.....if you think you are going to play people in Japan with any kind of accuracy in your game...then you need to wakeup forsure....because you will find the bit of lag is bad even when the guys is only a state/province over....

Usually the better XBOX 360 version of games are first, but this rare instance, the better version came later.

Should have waited. What do you have the PS3 for anyway? Is a blu ray protien folder that important to you?
