A couple of days ago, we had a report about the rumors surrounding the next Spring Update for the Xbox 360. Admittedly, the report wasn't juicy enough, with just a mention of a "simple" dash feature that is supposed to have already been included ever since launch. The report originally came from Major Nelson and being the authority that he is, we reckoned that the rumors must be true.

Anyway, we got hold of the features that will be included this Spring. According to the source, this information and video clip was taken from GameSpot, but was removed immediately. Below is the list of the features that are supposedly on its way, and after that is a video clip showing them in action.

Rumored Xbox 360 Spring Update features:

  • To be released on May 7th.
  • Add up to 600 Windows Live Messenger contacts to your Friends List.
  • Text chat with up to 6 Live Messenger contacts at once during games or movies.
  • The Marketplace will be getting its own Dashboard Blade.
  • The Marketplace will be skinned independently of the Dashboard, for special events.
  • The Marketplace will be getting a new, easier-to-navigate remake.
  • Achievement Pop-ups will now display how many points and which Achievement you have gained.
  • Low-power downloading (fans off) and auto-off after finishing queued downloads.
  • View partially downloaded video files.

 » [LEAKED] StarCraft-Ghost on PS3 and X360 Confirmed! [CVG]

This month’s CVG magazine got this exclusive leaked information from someone at Blizzard; this insider leaked the following info.
- StarCraft-Ghost will be released in Nov. 2007 on the PS3 and X360! It’s only being made for the next-gen consoles after PS2 and Xbox versions were canceled.
- StarGhost has every reason to be the next killer FPS in 2007 in terms of groundbreaking graphics, compelling storyline and refined gameplay.
- Blizzard confirmed that there will be gameplay screenshots and videos available to the public very soon.
- StarGhost will have about 12 hours of cinematic single player; you’ll explore the well-known StarCraft universe in the eyes of Nova, the elite Ghost.
- Cinematic and unforgettable Single player mode in StarGhost will feature various units (NPCs) among total of 5 races: Terran, Protoss, Zerg, Zerg-Terran hybrid, Zerg-Protoss hybrid. Moreover highly advanced AI in game will truly showcase what next-gen gameplay is all about.
- StarGhost will include classic multiplayer modes like DM, TD and CTF, and will support up to 24 players per server; however, the real fruit of StarGhost is the new and revolutionary Zerg versus Terran.
- Zerg Vs. Terran is a whole new class-level based multiplayer with RPG elements (you must attack and destroy opponent’s fortified main base to win). Blizzard can proudly announce that the two factions have totally difference elements to them. On team Zerg, you can play as Zergling, Hydralisk, Mutalisk and Ultralisk. On Terran, you have these options: Marine, Firebat, Engineer and Ghost Operative. You start the game as the lowest level units (level 1 such as Zerglings or Marines). You will respawn differently after you die based on your performance (you can earn and accumulate experience points then use them up accordingly).

* Zergling (lvl 1): The fastest moving land unit. Can’t take too much damage. Can use blood lust for short amount of time. Has burrow (for surprise attacks) and (cloak) detection.
* Hydralisk (lvl 2): Has limited-ranged corrosive attack (only powerful against vehicles). Has burrow and detection.
* Mutalisk (lvl 3): The only air and fastest unit (highly maneuverable). Fire limited-ranged bio-plasma attack. Guerrilla tactics done by skilled players are devastating. Can pick up enemy organic units then literally EAT (consume) them to refill health (OMG! If I do this eating thingy to my friends online, it’s the most humiliating kill I can ever imagine!).
* Ultralisk (lvl 4): The most powerful (with huge armor) but very slow land unit. Only has melee attack. The size of an Ultralisk is gigantic (as big as 10 Zerglings, 18 times bigger than a Marine). Has slam (stun all nearby enemies temporarily by slamming the ground). Rushing with 1 Ultralisk in front and some Zerglings and Hydralisks at the back looks fantastic and cinematic.

* Marine (lvl 1): Carries Gauss rifle.
* Firebat (lvl 2): Carries Napalm-based flamethrower (very short ranged attack). Has better armor than Marines. Can fire fully guided rockets by watching the camera on the missile. Has (burrow) detection ability.
* Engineer (lvl 3): He’s the only unit who can drive Vultures (weak but fast moving land vehicles which can place land mines) or can control Turrets (there’re many Turrets throughout the map; Turrets are only effective against Mutalisks and Ultralisks). Has detection ability.
* Ghost Operative (lvl 4): She has rechargeable cloak ability for limited amount of time. Carries FN92 sniper rifle which is only deadly against Zerglings and Hydralisks. Doesn’t have suitable weapons or means to fight with nearby enemies.

- Terran can have early land domination with sturdy Firebats (only lvl 2) and vultures (lvl 3). The only way for Zerg to fight with this Terran army is getting a few Ultralisks fast.
- Zerg can have early air domination with Mutalisks (lvl 3). Anyway, this is the end of my April (lirpa) 1st’s essay!

 » does this mean?

we can chat wit our msn buddies? cause it looks like that from dat video

» Why no MSN voice ?

Regular MSN uses it, so why not this one ? It doesn't even have to use XBL for it, just a direct connection using the 360's bandwidth....

I also agree though, having "party" chats is very much needed...

 » wtf?

Where's the web browser? I already have a pretty powerful pc but wii + ps3 have it so should a M$ game console!

   Re: c (Unregistered) - 2007-04-07
 » Exactly

I have a PC for web browsing, I don't need it on my consoles. I use it very rarely on my Wii. Focus on the games MS

» Multi chat ONLY on Dashboard

If they ever do more than one-on-one chat it would be only on the Dash, ala original Xbox. I don't know how taxing chat is on your connection, but I'm assuming if every person in an eight- or sixteen-player game was chatting with three other people it wouldn't be pretty.

This is better than the stupid motion controler for the 360....I think the 360 doesn't need a stupid web browser.

 » where ??

Nice list of features but where the hell is the AVI compatibility ??? Biggest draw back at the moment IMO although at least it plays mp3's unlike the PS3.

   by LiquidZ3r0 (Unregistered) - 2007-04-08
 » wat?

wat do you mean it plays mp3's unlike the ps3? im listening to mp3's right now on it, that i ripped from my ipod

   Re: Slyck (Unregistered) - 2007-04-09
 » re:wat ?

Quite right Liquidz3ro it does play mp3's but on having another look it appears that the PS3 can only deal with single folder structures where my mp3's, some 70gb's worth are all in alphabetical folders, albums etc which the PS3 can't deal with. My mistake, I stand corrected ;)
