Devil May Cry 4's Dante with Pandora - Image 1

Capcom developers behind Devil May Cry 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3, PC) recently shed light on design decisions that made the action-packed game as promising as it is. Some interesting factoids were brought up, such as the reason behind not requiring Xbox 360 owners to install the game in their hard drives, DMC4 having hot babes, and Dante's badass Pandora weapon.

Aside from confirming Dante loves pizza - simply because it's that good - producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi explained one of the reasons why the sword-slinger starts off with a plethora of kick-ass abilities off the bat. According to him, it's because Dante has become a very powerful character story-wise, as seen when Devil May Cry 3 (a prequel featuring younger Dante) ended with him able to utilize four combat styles then became stronger with a superior Devil Trigger form in the first DMC.

On the other hand, both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners can be assured that they're not missing anything, since the only difference Kobayashi noted is that the version on Sony's console is clearer. This is due to different compression methods used and not because of the larger Blu-ray format, he said.

Those keeping tabs on the game already know it asks PS3 owners to install the game to the hard drive before playing. According to Kobayashi, the same could've been implemented on the Xbox 360 version if Microsoft gave the green light. The platform holder apparently disapproved because some models of its consoles don't have hard disk drive storage.

When asked how Devil May Cry 4 improves on its predecessor, director Hideaki Itsuno took the opportunity to let everyone know that this iteration of the demon-slaying series is friendly not only to fans, but also to those who haven't played the game.

On adding more than a single hot lady to the game, Itsuno said, "We weren't thinking so much about balancing out the roster of characters as much as we just wanted to put a lot of sexy ladies in this game! The more cool guys and sexy ladies the better, right?"

Of course, now that both Trish and Lady are in a single package, Itsuno reassures old fans will enjoy learning more about Dante's relationships with the two. "I'm also hoping that new fans will become interested in the other games in the series after learning a bit about Dante and his very interesting friends," he added.

Dante's Pandora, the multi-purpose weapon which can transform into various guns and even a rocket launcher, also piqued our interest. Here's what Itsuno had to say about it:

I wanted to have a transforming, multi-purpose firearm in Dante's arsenal... In its final form I wanted it to transform into something that would be even bigger than Dante himself. I was thinking about Gundam when I asked for this. I also wanted the weapon to shoot out a lot of small missiles, kind of like some of the fighters in Macross.

He admitted that it could have been in Devil May Cry 3, but idea didn't materialize. In that installment, we were able to wield an electric guitar and talking twin swords, so it's difficult to complain.

 » Interesting..

I didn't know the PS3 version was clearer although since blu-ray has so much potential and space, i think more idea's and features will be implemented in the Next DMC game, and hopefully it will be Exclusive since BD offers so much to a games development.

Actually...It's Nicolo S. from QJ that got it wrong, your interpreted QJ article wording correctly, but they misinterpreted it from the 1UP interview.

Here is the quote in question:

"1UP: Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions look nearly identical, with the only difference we noticed being the rolling video that plays if you turn on your system and leave it alone. The PS3 version looks clearer. Is that just because the video demo is on Blu-ray on PS3?

HK: The variation is caused by the differences between the compression methods used."

The start game video demo is a little clearer on the PS3 because of compression methods use. The rest of the game is nearly identical.

» with all due respect stealth buddy

it's going to be a very long shot for the Devil May Cry series to get back into exclusive status... you know i'm not an Xbox supporter but if there's one thing that the Xbox community has proven time and again is that they buy the games... although this isn't the typical blockbuster FPS game that XBox owners are more accustomed to (i'm still amazed at how some mediocre shooter managed to outsell some very good none shooter game... still scratching my head on why the only XBox game that I like... Mass Effect.. didn't do so well as compared to numerous average shooter games that came out on the console)... i feel like the Xbox community will support this game, thus showing the benefits of multiplatform release.

as for the PS3 version and the features it has i got a very interesting fact that i read from the IAN AU review (in quotes):

"Nero ends up pursuing Dante for a fair chunk of the game, while Kyrie is held captive and we, as players, slowly try to piece together the story (a continuation of Devil May Cry 2). For what it's worth, the PS3 version allows you to install a large portion of the game onto the hard drive, during which you'll be entertained with a decent looping recap of the story. Handy."

This will prove very useful to those who missed out on previous DMC instalments...

eh ... Mass Effect has already sold 1.5 million copies, and shipped 2.5 million. What average shooter games do you think out sold it?

 » Different wording, same meaning

"This is due to different compression methods used and not because of the larger Blu-ray format, he said."
If you compress and it causes loss in quality, more space is needed for full quality. If they kept it at full quality and it didn't fit on a DVD9, then I'd say it pretty much is the fact that the Blu-ray format is larger.

 » blue-ray

makes sense if the ps3 version is clearer due to it using blu-ray... blu-ray provides 50 gigs of space dual layer, so it makes sense that the game looks clearer on ps3... then again its only when you're standing still that you'll be able to notice... and with a game like dmc4, you'll barely stand still...

 » tried the demo

and it's pretty good. I've never played any of the first 3. The graphics are amazing. I might get it.
