People wished for it. People made a petition for it. However, it's been almost a year since rumors about DivX support for the Xbox 360 came out, and it's almost safe to say that Microsoft already forgot about Xbox 360 owners patiently waiting for them to add support for the popular media format in their consoles. However, there's is now a ray of hope that may give Xbox gamers to believe that yes, there will be DivX format support to come to the Xbox very, very soon.

In the Q&A portion of DivX's presentation at the JP Morgan SmNid cap conference, an analyst from JP Morgan, Paul Coster, managed to get a very juicy comment from DivX's Acting Chief Executive Officer Kevin Hell. When asked about the possibility of the Xbox finally supporting the DivX codec, here's what Hell said (in verbatim):

"Yes! that, uh, we're in discussions with Microsoft on that at this point in time, so I can't go into any great detail on that. Um that is not a certified, that is not a certified or licensed product at this time."

It's certainly a very promising statement, and we clearly just couldn't wait for the moment that we can finally play most of our videos with our Xbox 360s. Do take note that this is in no way a confirmation however, so stick around while we gather more clues.

Until DivX is a licensed, comercial codec, then MS will not support it.

Once you have to start paying to use it, less people will make DVD rips using it and everything will go to Xvid an d then nothing will have changed...people will start whining for an xvid codec on the 360...

Seriously you are best off downloading your crap then using something like PSP video 9 to convert everything overnight, then you have smaller file sizes, same quality and it's streamable to the 360 and can play on PS3/PSP as well....

It's pointless adding Divx support. I've Divx on my DVD player NEVER once used it OR even though about using it. Don't see the point.

just use tversity media server, encodes all types of video to either wmv or mp4, your choice, then streams it on-the-fly to your xbox so its instant. works in the same way as you connect to media player 11, just search for computers and it shows up. i use it to watch prison break and stuff like that. best of all its free
