I know my 10 year old nephew spent his hard earned money buying The Orange Box for his PS3 just for Portal. He doesn't like HL2 and doesn't play online so TF2 is useless.

first of all this is a Valve game. secondly if they didn't maximize the profits from the extremely expensive cost of development - then there would be less money put into new games. if these companies don't maximize profits then guess what, they close down to keep whatever financial assets they can and we get no more games. more options are better, so stop being so immature.

dude, think before you type b/c you are agreeing with me w/o knowing it. EA publishes the game, but do you think they will throw a lot of money at Valve's next project without maximizing the profits from this one? the funding you get for your next project is certainly calculated by the profitability of your last project. Besides, not everyone wanted all the games and it is always a good idea to give customers the OPTION! This is what makes Valve a good company and makes their fans loyal.

this bodes well for a console release of HL2: episode 3 though - if they are already thinking of individual releases. so, i'm happy since the only thing i have to play it on is my ps3.

I finally broke down and bought The Orange Box a few days ago. If I had known this, I wouldn't have two copies of HL2 and Episode 1.
Urgh... they should have never canceled The Black Box. The Orange Box was a wonderful way to screw returning customers.

how? they would have been very similarly priced anyway. if they had released the blackbox, that would have been stupid. give the people more bang for their buck. just cause there is less content doesn't guarantee lower prices. Look at Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Black) That is like a 4 year old xbox game sold for FULL retail price!

Even if it was only $10 less, I would have much rather had that $10 then have two copies of the games. They could have very easily put The Black Box on Steam for $40 and all the people who have purchased the previous games would have been perfectly happy. Also, it isn't fair to compare it to remakes, because these are the exact same games. If they had overhauled the graphics or added extra levels I would understand your point, but they didn't. They instead found ways to squeeze every last penny they could out of us. Not that The Orange Box is a bad deal, it's fantastic for people new to HL, it's just pointless for them to make games that are only available at a reasonable price by purchasing old games with them.

I wonder how Ep3 is going to be released. May hav to be the 1st biggest downloadable game for consoles. Then again, if they make it a decent sized game itself, it could qualify as a full game - full price.
I felt robbed after paying £20 for ep1 on PC - 4-5hrs?. compared to HL1, it wasnt nowhere near as fat as that Valve gov bloke

People above were asking about the solo prices of the games in the Orange Box. TF2 standalone = $30. Portal standalone = $20. So you can pay $50 for the Orange Box to get both games plus all the HL2 crap, or you can just buy TF2 and Portal for the same amount.
