Eden Games' Hervé Sliwa: inspiration and innovation on Alone in the Dark, five screens - Image 1Making a game realistic is definitely one difficult endeavor, but nonetheless an enjoyable one. Eden Games' Hervé Sliwa, talks about the things the he went through while making Alone in the Dark 5 (PS3, PS2, PC, Xbox 360, Wii), such as inspiration and innovation.

Much of the inspiration for the game came from TV series like 24, Lost, and Prison Break. They pursued which way was the best to tell the game's story. These TV shows provided a good guide for the game's over-all length. Hence, the game's episodic structure.

Another source for Sliwa's inspiration was J. J. Abrams, the man behind Lost and Alias. Abrams' idea called the magic box, used for creating different plot twists, was Sliwa's main source of inspiration.

Sliwa wanted people to get hooked to the game. Through playing, Sliwa hopes that these people could find the game more interesting than a movie. It is the game's interactivity that enables people to be inside the story itself, to be part of it.

In order to achieve that type of gameplay, they tried to mix innovation, action, new gameplay and make it enjoyable for everyone. One of the highlights in the game is the variety feature in it. They tried to blend in various elements, things that you can find in a full-blown adventure story while maintaining a good narrative.

They were able to distinguish the things they needed to put into the game. The only problem was, they had difficulty putting them together. Still, they were successful in putting everything in style. They broke a few traditional gaming rules and added some real world rules. This certainly will make things interesting for gamers out there.

Simply put, there are no specific rules in the game. All that limits you is your imagination. This is the result of how they were able to put various elements together. So, when you find yourself walking in the dark and come face to face with a fiend, go wild. Do everything you can think of. Just keep in mind that the game is as close to the rules of the reality.

The screenshots we've provided in the article serve as a little teaser on the game. It shows just how realistic Alone in the Dark is going to be. Enjoy!
