id Software's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars - Image 1When a new game comes out, gamers usually expect some sort of downloadable content from the developers. However, it seems that the developers from id Software are a bit apprehensive to do this with Enemy Territory: Quake Wars for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

According to id Software's business development director Steve Nix, players will have to make do with the 12 maps in the game as the developers have no plans to introduce new ones yet due to the sheer complexities of Mega Texture.

Perhaps the bigger reason the developers aren't going to be churning out content yet is due to the gameplay balance issues that new maps and weapons would introduce. Nix noted that each weapon, map, and character has been perfectly balanced through years of playtesting. Throwing in something new could upset the balance, and we all know how ugly things can turn out if that happens right?

Does this mean that there will be no new content for the game? No. It just means that id Software is being careful with whatever they decide to release. That said, we can't rule out the possibility that id Software may already be testing some new content for Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and that they just need to make sure that the new content is perfectly balanced.
