Freebie: XBLA's Undertow to be a free downloadable next week - Image 1

As you will recall, Microsoft's Marc Whitten sent out a letter last week saying that MS will be releasing a free Live Arcade game as an apology for Xbox Live's connection woes during the holidays. Now, in case you're worried that the game might be some toss-away title that many of us probably wouldn't enjoy, we've got some good news.

Whitten has updated his letter to state that the freebie XBLA downloadable is Undertow, a shooter from Chair Entertainment. The offer will be available beginning next Wednesday, 2:00 a.m. PST through Sunday, 11:59 p.m., and will be offered to both XBL gold and silver members.

Originally priced at 800 MS points, Undertow offers players a mix of game modes ranging from a story driven single-player mode to both offline and online multiplayer bouts. We'll let you know in case any new updates are announced regarding this development.

 » well, it's kinda cool

Darn, I was hoping that each individual could choose what game they wanted, but this is cool too I suppose. I did enjoy the trial version of the game, but I'm sure not everyone would have the same feeling.

Watch Xbox LIVE go offline for an overload of people downloading the free demo! LOL

 » Hope they have a Plan B.

I hope they have some alternative for those who already have that game, or a lot of people will be pissed, including me.

Last time there was a free XBLA game my Xbox was in Texas getting "repaired". Guess what, no second chances. WTF

wasn't impressed enough by the demo to buy this right away. It was still cool... just didn't blow my sox off like the hype machines were saying.

At least they're making it up somehow

» why they just don't add...

a code to download any game or just to add points?

 » I don't think they can

The codes the Marketplace uses are unique and only work once, for one person. So to do that they'd have to generate and personally hand out 10 million+ codes.

My thoughts are the same as mikekearn's, this game looked really cool but I just didn't have the money to spare. Now it's gonna be free, so yay

 » Hell yes

This is one of those games I really wanted to get, but couldn't justify spending even the extra 10 bucks on right now. I am very happy about this.
