Excited we know you all are on the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto IV. And we totally understand. But you Xbox 360 owners would probably want to sit down before taking this in.News has it that the Xbox 360 version of the said game is "totally region locked." That obviously means that North American players can't go to PAL shops to get a copy and vice-versa. For now, it seems that the PS3 players are more fortunate regarding this matter, but we're still on the lookout on confirmation for that. Anyhow, the big launch is due... right about now and there's definitely no stopping it. Not even pulled down transit ads or leaked downloads on torrent. Are you ready? We sure are! Buy: [GTA IV (PS3)] Buy: [GTA IV (Xbox 360)] |

» How is this News?
All xbox 360 games are region locked, the xbox 360 is a region encoded system for both games and dvd's, the ps3 has no region locking at all, why make it seem like GTA 4 was made an exception for the ps3 with region free when all ps3 games are region free, why did any one print this as news as if GTA would be region free for the 360? All xbox 360 games are region locked, PAL or NTSC.

» That's not entirely true...
June, if you follow the story through to the source you'll see that the vast majority of Xbox 360 games are in fact region free, even Rockstars own Table Tennis is region free. The PS3 does in fact have region locking abilities, but implementing that feature is left to the publishers.

» Xbox 360 Region Lock?
All Xbox 360 games are NOT region locked. EA seem to region lock all of them, Halo 3 was region free, PGR series is region free and that is to name just a couple. Oh and Lost Planet was region locked. So to turn around and say that ALL 360 games are region locked is WRONG!!Sorry to have to tell you.

» Well
Well while region free games are very benificial and convenient for gamers, it's mainly important when games are far appart in release in various regions. GTA4 was released in both US and Europe at the same time (probably Japan as well) so it shouldn't be a problem.
Well unless you have an import console that is.
