GTA IV

After Microsoft and RockStar Games announced that an exclusive episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV is heading to Xbox Live, it seems that it wasn't "exclusive" at all. The rumor buzzin' around, according to a Rockstar North insider, is that the developers are also working on a downloadable content for Sony's PlayStation 3 platform. The rumor also says that the downloadable content for Xbox Live is pretty much the same for the PlayStation 3. The new content is expected to feature a bunch of additional areas which players are free to explore.

To date, the Grand Theft Auto series has regained popularity in the gaming world after it gave players the opportunity to play the role of a criminal and accomplish various missions in order to rise through the ranks of organized crime. With the GTA IV in sight, we expect to see more developments in the game that kept GTA fans hitched to the game. GTA IV marks the 10th anniversary of the Grand Theft Auto franchise and it will be released on U.S. soil on October 16 next year. As for the rumors, RockStar Games has not confirmed this yet but we will keep our eyes peeled for that.

 » So?

Who the hell even needs to play GTA now that Saints Row has came along and just owned already with it's multiplayer, better missions, & character creation?!

   Re: Kieran (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » ....

Dude, imo Saints row isn't better than GTA - it is just missing something that made gta interesting... the story mostly. However, I do agree that saints row is an amazing game - but wouldn't exist if it weren't for GTA. Personaly, I didnt enjoy the create your character - because you then had no personality - but the clothing options were dos!

   Re: Dave (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » GTA>Saints Row

Yup he's right. Good character creation but thats it. No good story, good voice actors, and just watch GTA will have WAAYY better multiplayer

   Re: PistolSmoke - 2006-10-17
 » I'll tell you why.

I'll tell you why, it's because GTA IV is going to blow Saints Row out of the water. Yes, I enjoyed Saints Row, and I thought it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I only enjoyed it for about a month, even with the multiplayer.

The GTA's, on the other hand, I probably played about two or three months each on single player alone. It was just that good and long. Furthermore, after I beat the games, I usually went back and played them again, because the story and environment and characters were just that immersive and great. And that's even with some minor flaws, combat flaws, and fairly sucky graphics. Even though Saints Row improved on everything that bugged me about the GTA's, and even though it was still a really fun game, it just didn't have the heart and immersability that GTA had. One of my favorite gaming memories is running around the hood of Grove Street in San Andreas and trying to reclaim my hood. Unforgettable and fun.

That's all just a long way to say that even though at first I liked SR better than GTA, now that I have a little bit more foresight and a better point of few over the whole situation, I still have to say GTA is the better game/series. They just have a better draw, and in the end is more memorable. Also, the ending was actually satisfying.

That wasn't nice of microsoft to lie to us again. If its also comming to PS3, dont lie just tell the truth. Exclusive content. Have you seen the video?

I haven't heard Rockstar confirm this. So until then I will reserve judgement

Um smartone, this is a rumor the exclusive content was officialy anounced by rockstar for 360.
   by mARTIN (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » YAY

It makes sense. You cant have exclusive content for one system and not for the other. It just isnt fair. Good job Rockstar games.

It depends on how well the asian machine does in the states imo, but I wouldn't care either way. The PC version will be way better, as were the previous GTA games.

This has been known for a month or two now that the PS3 will get its own exclusive content for GTA aslo. Its exclusive content for each system.

 » yea...

Im glad that its not just for the 360 or just the ps3...you guys got to see that..out of the three consoles...the battle for first lies between the 360 n ps3...wordwide fan base has already showed that the damn Wii is going to be at the top and know..it wont take "Next -Gen" but its going to displace th 360 or Ps3 what people dont see is that by doing that rockstar assures it self of sales for providin for both companies...and then well...No one can ***** about console specific lol... I dunno I love GTA I loved Saint its going to get crazy next few years only thing that prob wont happen this Gen is mario landing on the 360 or PS3 other than that....FF is coming for the 360/Ps3/Wii/DS/PSP ....blah im done lol

so yea I wonder...
1. PS3
2. Wii
3. 360
or
1.360
2.Wii
3.PS3

who knows...I just know I love my 360 and will be getting the other systems as well .

I'm just happy it isn't the same old PS-Exclusive like the last few, where us xbox-suckers had to wait a year for the same game

 » LOL

This is very old news. I played Saints Row, its more like Crazy Taxi with some GTA elements, its weak. Scarface and God Father are weak too. Something about GTA that feels right.

it might not be the same content, which makes it excluse so the PS3 might have some excluvise download content too.

saints row is next gen, gta hasnt had a next gen title yet.

   by ralph (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » Same on PS3

Hopefully it's the same on PS3 because I don't want to buy a 360 just to play GTA. PS3 version will probably be better anyway.

   by dave (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » blu-ray

the xbox isnt anything without the internet. rockstar could just fill a bluray disk with content. that way you could just play all the exclusive stuff from out the box. and they could put some content online. ps3 does have the bigger hard drive. and saints row is just a copy of gta. it wont be remembered when gta 4 comes out.

I would take 2x + HDD any day over the unearthly sounds the 12x drive makes with a game in it.

» love the new comments lol

I read down the comments, noticed some had been shut auto cause of thier rating, opened them and they where total fanboy crap. Im glad it hides that lol. I dont think MS lied at all I think the 360 will get some exclusive content and the ps3 will get some exclusive content. MS had obviosly been told that rockstar liked xbox lives ability to expand games and so said hey thier gonna do is some content. Now it seems the ps3 will also have a similiar ability so rockstar have said we will do some for that aswell. I dont care cause i dont plan on buyin the ps3 until its a nice reasonable price and I can still play GTA on my 360. So im not bothered.

   by o (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » o well

still 360 one will be better marketplace pwns what does playstation got playstation shop lol

   by Shini (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » ugh.

People who dont own/play Saints Row shouldn't judge it as a copy of GTA....Of course it is based off GTA, but it IMPROVED on MANY aspects of the game, that rockstar never did. Such as CHARACTER CREATION....and online...

anyways, who cares if the PS3 gets the content Xbox has, fine, whatever, let them have it...share the wealth. Either way Xbox gets it, why should us Xbox users care if PS3 gets it to? who cares.

   by PistolSmoke - 2006-10-17
 » Project 86 Rocks

I don't really care. I have a 360, and will be getting the content whether or not it comes to the PS3. If it does, great for them, I'm glad they get to share the enjoyment.

If this is true, though, and this stuff isn't 360 exclusive, I'm a little annoyed with Microsoft for all the double speak and half truths they've been spouting lately. But, like someone before me said, I'll wait for an official (Rockstar) announcement before I believe it totally. Maybe Sony heard about the exclusives and decided they had to do something about it, and convinced R* to throw that content PS3's way as well. Who knows.

Either way, this game is exactly a year off, and that saddens me in my heart.

» This has been bothering me for a while.

Does Rockstar know how to do Roman Numerals? GTA IV is GTA 4. GTA 4 was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Did they mean to make it GTA VI, because that would be Grand Thef Auto 6. Which would make sense, because Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was Grand Theft Auto 5. I know it is really off subject with the current news, but I'm amazed I've never seen anyone else talking about this seemingly obvious error. Is it a mistake, or did I miss something?

   Re: PistolSmoke - 2006-10-17
 » For your information

GTA III wasn't actually GTA 3, either. It was actually number four, or something. So they number the games however the hell they want, so I guess deal with it and don't be so picky.
by uh no (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
» if vice city was 5 it woulda been called 5

the last gta to get a number was 3 so this is really 4

   Re: box (Unregistered) - 2006-10-18
 » GTA

yup ur right, san andreas and vice city were jus the same as GTA 'london' that didn't get a number either. When they are not talking about a specific place is when they use a number.

 » cant wait

Oh I just can't wait for this game! I have 360 now and I'm getting PS3 too so it doesn't matter to me about the content. Yeah DemonSlayer GTA Vice City and SanAndreas weren't meant to be 4 and 5 otherwise they would have named them that. I think it cool that we get GTA 4 now on next-gen kinda like GTA 3 was the next-gen game at that time.

   by Shini (Unregistered) - 2006-10-17
 » ....

Gta Vice City and Gta San Andreas were basically "expansion packs" of GTA III....really big, and awesome expansion packs. They based it off GTA III....

now you saw teh difference between GTA II and GTA III....the jump from GTA III to GTA IV should be jsut as big, which is very exciting.

   by Demon Slayer - 2006-10-17
 » ---

Yeah, but what bugs me about that is that, while they were being made, Rockstar refered to Vice City as "GTA 4" and San Andreas as "GTA 5". Does that mean that they decided those two aren't really part of the main series and should be considered side games like Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Mario Tennis, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, etc? Something about that just bothers me. Also, does this mean that Grand Theft Auto IV is the final title, and they're not intednding to put a city name at the end? I know it's a little thing, but it's been annoying me every time I see it.

Oops, that response was to Uh No. I walked away for about ten minutes and I hadn't seen TheDude and Shini's posts.

» Blu-ray disks, pointless at this point? Yes.

You should all know by now. Game companies have no interest in making their games large as hell. New technologies reduce the size of games to create a great looking render with a small file size. Anyone heard of the 86kb game that looked bloody awsome? Well, that is the aim here, not huge fricken 20gb games. The industry is going towards online, downloadable, expandable content here, but who wants to download 5 gigs of data. We dont have fast enough connections to even consider this. The only thing they can do is go smaller and those huge disks arnt going to mean a thing until we actually have a use for them other than backing up data, which right now is way cheaper to just use an external or secondary internal HD.

 » blu-ray

Id rather just play my game with all the content out of the box. with the 50gig bluray in the ps3. rockstar can put all the content on one disk. it will load fast because blu-ray doesnt read the same as a regular dvd player. they played resistance fall of man on line with 40 player all at ones and it loaded quick. go to ign.com and look up the game video. so all that slowload crap can kiss my ass. You dam xbot always try to find an exscuse. blu-ray is better "well it load slow" ps3 has better graphics "well graphics dont matter" ps3 is better "well it cost too much". yall need to face the fact and shut up. the ps3 version of gta will be better and have more content to download because after rockstar uses up your little dvd9 and filled your 20 gig hd you wont even have room on your system to download the patch to make the game work. LET THE BOTS RUN WILD!!!!!

Well it is all in the wording, yes the downloadable material might be Xbox Live Exclusive, but what would you call PS3 online service. See Moore claimed that, not Rockstar, and what if at the time GTA was not informed of SONY's online plan? Rockstar will not burn the bridges with SONY. Ten to one the next GTA after this one will again a SONY exclusive.
