Gears of War 2: of linked achievements and special bundles - Image 1One of the interesting announcements to come out of the San Diego Comic-Com 08 was from Cliff Bleszinski, who revealed two things related to Gears of War 2. The first was the possibility of seeing linked achievements in the game, and the second was some preliminary information on a US$ 130 bundle for the game.

First off, we have the linked achievements. From what's been said so far, these linked achievements essentially are a bonus to players who finished the first game. By completing and acquiring certain achievements in the first game, you'll be able to unlock special content in the second.

These included the following examples of linked achievements:
  • Completing Gears of War, Act One, will unlock Anthony Carmine in Gears of War 2
  • Finding 10 COG tags in the first game will unlock Minh Young Kim in Gears of War 2
  • Killing Raam in Gears Of War will unlock a playable Raam in Gears of War 2
Also mentioned at Comic-Con was a US$ 130 Gears of War 2 bundle, which probably shouldn't be confused with the special edition bundle. This bundle is supposed to have a replica of the lancer weapon from the game, though not much else has been said of it. Expect more information on linked achievements and the US$ 130 bundle when it becomes available.

can't say i'll buy gow2, the first one just didn't grab me.

i do however like idea of rewarding gamer loyalty with additional content.

with everything getting more expensive, it's nice to see something offer more value... especially after you've already paid for it.
