Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV - Liberty City - Image 1

With Grand Theft Auto IV's April 29 release date looms ever so near, you'd think the rumors about it would die down a bit. Well, rumors about the core game have lessened to some degree, but another rumor has surfaced about - hold on to your hats - downloadable content.
If the rumors turn out to be true, we'll be downloading entire cities for Rockstar North's GTA 4 (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360). We'll let a snippet from CVG's GTA IV magazine special explain:

Of course, to call games as vastly ambitious as Vice City or San Andreas mere 'expansion packs' seems childish, but nevertheless, the downloadable content (DLC) coming for the Xbox 360 version of IV has repositioned those games in just this way. DLC so far has meant the odd new car, jumper of bit of horse armour, but GTA IV is set to completely redefine the idea with expansions that are to GTA IV what Vice City or San Andreas were GTA III.

The article reiterates the possibilities: "Yes, Rockstar is clearly hinting at new downloadable cities; and the chances of them being London, Vice City or SA again are slim to none."

Now before you guys start bouncing off the walls at the idea of new cities other than San Andreas and Vice City, we'll advise you to take this rumor with a whole warehouse of salt. It would be nice to think about the possibilities though. What city would you like to be *cough* Rockstarized?

You may have noticed that they only spoke of GTA IV's Xbox 360 version and we're hoping that PlayStation 3 players get the same amount of love in case the rumor turns out to be true. Anyway, we'll keep a close eye on this particular rumor, so stay tuned.

I doubt they would make an expansion like that exclusive to one console only, imagine the money to be made off that, if you have GTAIV and you could buy a city expansion you would compared to a new car or something which may not appeal to everyone, I think its BS though that they have built another city already, sounds very unlikely...

 » well

whatever it is it has to be worth the 50mil.

but you've got a very solid argument.

It cost MS $50 million to keep it exclusive. Rockstar is pretty well known for over delivering, why would DLC be any different? Even if it's only 10 hours of new gameplay that's still worth my money.

 » Well....

360 IS getting some type of exclusive content, and it will big exclusive content.....

Also if they were just to make GTA4 vice city, or san adreas.....then they could just use the geometry data from the old city and would just have to add more polygons, details and textures (maybe not even textures as most textures are made in hi-def resolutions, even back in ps2 days and then dumbed down for the console)

So it is very possible.....and you PS3 users will have to just realise that yes 360 users will get a major addition to GTA4 that PS3 users will not have....because MS is rich like that.....

This isn't the first time there's been rumoured exclusive content for the 360? I'm sure I've read on here before that there would be downloads exclusive to the 360.
Am I alone here?
I'm wondering if the PS3 version will include stuff on the disc that you can only download for the 360?
Disc size problem?

» Im concerned (since MS is behind this)

It may be a possibilty that the actual GTAIV will be sliced a bit short in terms of longevity in order to compensate the DLC and make worth buying.

THis idea comes from MS's Bungie and their game of the decade. (11 maps, then 3 more maps within few months). Not sure about others, but i think this is definetly a harsh way of bribing gamers into believing DLC is worth MORE money.

To be fair, i'd also point at PAIN, £5, good in delivery, but low in content.

Are you new to gaming? Have you heard of the developer Rockstar before?

I'm still surprised people buy these GTA rehashes over and over. This game will be no different than the other boring games. Even Saints Row 2 is more superior than this. It has better combat, vehicles (land, air, & sea), better story, better characters (and voice actors), customizable houses, customizable character, & online play (which GTA copied from Saints Row).

Of course, I will be rated low for these comments since the GTA fanboys hate the truth & change (which is why they like these rehashes).

 » gta4 map idea

Hmm well if GTA 4 is New York then I would like to see maybe Baltimore, MD or Philadelphia, PA be a exclusive map since both are close to new york it would make reasonable sense rather then having them put london or something next to new york which would make no sense.

 » Awesome......

If this turns out yo be true this certainly will be the one of the greatest dlc of all time. Not the greatest though. Oblivian still has that title. I'm definitely getting this for 360. Also, why put this is the ps3 part? this has nothing to do with ps3 owners.

It's in the PS3 section to try and start a flame war.
