Now this was a genuine shock for me. Wii Fit is a brand new title and grossly expensive (at least to this impoverished author). It’s largely marketed away from the mainstream gamer market and only appears on one platform, albeit a very successful one. GTA 4 (Xbox 360, PS3), on the other hand, is the latest installment in what is arguably the most successful franchise since the Super Mario years. It consistently enjoys almost perfect game reviews and has been hogging the top spot on Metacritic since release day. I would have thought sex and violence versus exercise was a no-brainer and yet the humble little fitness game has sold over 8.7 million units worldwide already. That’s just 1.9 million short of GTA 4’s 10.6 million. Analyst Michael Pachter notes that nearly one in three Wii owners are buying Wii Fit. If the trend continues, GTA 4 will be outsold by the end of the year. Related Wii Fit Articles:

This is hilarious! Had the Wii iteself not proven hands down that there are more casual gamers then not, this certainly would have!
The fit is GO!

One thing that you need to consider is that there are not alot of games available for the wii (far less as compared to ps3 and 360). So when a "game" (and I use the term game loosely for wii fit) comes out that people who own the system consider to be good then most everyone is going to buy it because there are not many other options. As for ps3/360 owners, sometimes we have to turn games down that we would like to play becuase there are too many good options and you have to make a choice about which one to get.

I diagree with that. People do not buy things that they otherwise would not want. Especialy for most of 2008.
If it's been a while since a good game (for me) has come out for the Wii you suggest that I would buy the Wii Fit.... just because? That is false. "Normal" people do not do that.
Now let's here from those who are douchey enough to make a crack on my use of the term "normal".

If you had read my comment ISOHaven you would have noticed that I did not suggest that people would buy a game that they think is not good just because that's all there is. What I said is that when a good game comes out on a system that doesn't have many then it will sell more than when a good game comes out on a system that has alot. I for one have had to choose between several good games because I don't have the time to play them all. But if there aren't that many on the wii then when a good one comes out more people will get it.
