Halo 3 and Xbox 360 tops US September NPD sales charts - Image 1The numbers are in and it has been confirmed that both Bungie's Halo 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 dominated the U.S. NPD Group's sales charts for the month of September. This was pretty much expected since the Canadian NPD charts also had the Xbox 360 and Halo 3 on the top of their list.

In NPD's top selling games for September, Halo 3 took top honors with all three versions combining to sell 3.3 million copies. This was followed by Wii Play which sold 282,00 copies. Pulling up the third slot is The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass for the Nintendo DS with 224,000 units sold. Here are the rest of the games on the top ten list:

  • Madden NFL 08 (PS2) - 205,000
  • Skate (Xbox 360) - 175,000
  • Madden NFL 08 (Xbox 360) - 173,000
  • Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii) - 167,000
  • Bioshock (Xbox 360) - 150,000
  • Brain Age (Nintendo DS) - 141,000
  • Heavenly Sword (PlayStation 3) - 139,000
On the console side of the market, the Xbox 360 received a 50 percent increase of sales tallying over 527,000 consoles sold last month. This was closely followed by the Nintendo Wii which sold 501,000 units and the Nintendo DS which almost broke the 500,000 mark.

NPD Analyst Anita Frazier commented on this sudden surge of Xbox 360 sales saying that, "if ever there was a doubt that great content drives hardware acquisition, this should put that doubt to rest." The numbers do make a point, and it is one that console manufacturers may want to keep in mind.

Halo 3 is C_R_A_P.

   Re: Constantinecy - 2007-10-19
 » no

Halo 3 is a good game nobody can say otherwise as regards FPS. But its only flaw is that it lacks in inovation and evolution from its predecessors Halo and especialy Halo 2. When i was playing it it felt like i was playing halo 2 again but in higher model detail. The gameplay was spot on nevertheless (exept for the hard time the 360 controller gives you in fast reaction aiming...)

About the sale figures no news here we all new this. The question is now What about from here on hmmm...?

» You must not play alot of halo...

Halo 3 feels nothing like halo 2, other then dual weilding....as far as the feel of the game and the gameplay, it is much closer to the first halo....which is a good thing....

» Yeah, nothing like Halo 2

Not to brag, but I'm a level 50 Major on Halo 3, so you can probably assume I know a little something about this game. It is nothing like Halo 2 at all, even the dual wielding is different. Everything takes more skill, and the whole game is all-around more balanced. Most of the maps are actually good this time around (I'm sure everyone remembers garbage like Ascension and Gemini from Halo 2; there is no map nearly that bad in Halo 3). To say that this is not an evolution or a step up from Halo 2 is just stupid.

Did you even play Halo 2 Constantinecy? I just don't see how anyone could possibly not notice the non-graphical differences. The game is different in every possible way, and all of the differences are for the better.

And I don't have a problem with the 360 controller, what hard time are you talking about exactly?

Do us all a favor and stop posting.

I love PS3 and will be getting a 360 soon. Im a big fan of PS3 but even i know your statement is full of BS.

I played halo 3 and its a very good game. Nothing about it is Crap. Its a fun game and thats all you need in games at least.
While i don't think it deserved all the hype it got there is nothing bad about the game.

But just a question is this really news..i mean we all knew Halo 3 and 360 would be number one and the highest on the sale charts in September. Its no surprise. September was MS month really.

 » Correction to my post

There is one difference which is definitely not more balanced, does not take more skill, and certainly is not for the better. That is the difference in the melees. The melees are flawed almost to the point of being broken, and here's proof

Bungie, fix this now. If I melee first because I'm better and faster, I should win.

   Re: Master Chef - 2007-10-20
» Damn you QJ and your equals sign thing

If anyone wants to see the video proving that the melees in Halo 3 are garbage, simply replace the plus sign in the link to an equals sign. If you don't want to watch it, a quick summary would be that even if one player melees before another, that player dies if the other player has more health. That's the new melee system. The player with more health wins a melee battle. So even if you melee before the other guy because you're a better player, if he has a tiny amount more health than you you're the one who dies. How does that make any sense?

Did get no smiles i was backing up halo, man people are not cool.

» ps3 should of been on top

For continueing to sell the most hope. Sorry ps3 owners but while the rest of us enjoy great games that are ALREADY out you all can enjoy great posts by crazed ps3 fanboys that will defend their system till the end. Maybe one day you will prevail but until then i'll be having a great time gaming.

   Re: Stealth! - 2007-10-20
 » OK

Im a PS3 fan and i take this as an offense. Seriously Its not even a year old and 360 is 2 years old and you expect the PS3 to be on top, anyone who thought this is stupid.

I knew the PS3 wouldn't be on top this early, they're in a marathon not sprint.
Besides the PS3 has actually done extremely well, i mean its already sold more than PS1 and PS2 in its first year combined.

I wouldn't call all of the 360 games great, good yes. A somewhat good launch of titles is what helping them now, and year start of course.

Sandvine sucks. There was an article on here a week or two ago that said their data suggested Halo didn't boost console sales.

What a bunch of morons!
