Gunstar Heroes - Image 1

Sega's going digital with their classics - and in reworked high definition graphics too. Announcing a summer release, they're confirming previous rumors: Gunstar Heroes from the Genesis era will be making its way to PSN and XBLA.

Aside from that, six other Sega classics will also be released through the summer as part of the Sega Vintage Collection 2. Just like the first collection (the one which had Sonic, Golden Axe, Ecco, etc), all of the following will be XBLA-exclusive:
  • Altered Beast
  • Shinobi
  • Comix Zone
  • Phantasy Star 2
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 3
  • Sonic and Knuckles
A shame that Sega's not releasing these other games for the PSN. Ah well.

The press release notes that all seven games will be re-done on high-def and will be getting leaderboards. Meanwhile, Network Play will be also available for all games except Shinobi, Phantasy Star 2, and Comix Zone.

Well Comix Zone and Gunstar Heroes are good but I can't stand the others, though since they're mostly XBLA exclusive I don't suppose it matters to me.

Though for gods sake leave in an option to use the original pixel art. In the games I've played so far, the original pixel sprites have always looked and functioned better than the 'HD' redrawn stuff... Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix being the main example. Comic art doesn't necessarily make great animated game sprites.
