It's a pretty risky procedure, but if you're cheap enough to risk bricking your Xbox 360 just so you won't buy the game for yourself, then go to the full article for details.

Xbox Live - Image 1 What would you do if your place doesn't have an internet connection? No internet for your PC or even for your Xbox 360. No Xbox Live. Well this guy went to great lengths to get his fix of the world wide web: he used his phone.

He connected his phone to his PC and gave it an Internet connection. That wasn't enough for him though: he then connected his PC to his Xbox 360 and that worked too. Now both systems have a connection through his phone. Go to the full article for more details.

Halo 3 - Image 1If you always find yourself becoming frag-fodder in Bungie's Halo 3, then consider yourself lucky right now: a Microsoft employee posted an internal office email listing several useful tips on how to rule in Halo 3. The tips vary: how to use maps more effectively, how to lob a bomb more effectively, and even how to gain the most EXP. Some of the hints are basic, but of course, knowing is half the battle.

Here are some of the questions that were tackled in Microsoft's internal email distribution list:
  • What are the tricks to being really good in Halo 3 Multiplayer?
  • What controller sensitively should I get used to? 10?
  • What weapons do more damage at the head versus the body?
  • What is the secret to being a good grenadier?
  • How do you use the battle rifle successfully?
If you're an avid Halo 3 fan, and if you find yourself whiling indecent amounts of time away on Multiplayer, you shouldn't pass this article up.

If your very own Xbox 360 has passed on to the great console war in the sky - i.e. went and lit up with the red ring of death - here's a neat and economical trick to get your machine of next-gen gaming love up and running once more, or at least for four or five days. All you need is a bit of patience - probably around half an hour or so's worth - and three standard-issue towels. Here it is, the Xbox 360 towel trick, as demonstrated by CheapyD of Cheap Ass Gamer.

Fortunately, there's no warranty-voiding activity you need to do with the towels in order to get your red-ring'ed console back in working order. First, one has to disconnect everything from the console itself except the power cord. Then, with the console turned on, simply wrap each towel around the Xbox 360 until you've got it snugly covered with three layers of towel material. This is to heat the console up enough to reset the chips inside.

Wait 20-25 minutes for the Xbox 360 to simmer, then remove the towels, turn it off, and then let it cool for about ten to fifteen minutes or so. If you've done it correctly, the Xbox 360 should be operational once again (of course, you have to reconnect everything first before turning it back on). Repeat this process every four or five days, or until the red ring comes back up again.

Note that towel trick is a temporary measure only, and you're really much better off sending your console in for repairs. In any case, enjoy the video!

Step two for checking your Xbox 360 - Image 1

Just got yourself an Xbox 360, and want to check if your unit is one of the newer ones with that extended heatsink... without voiding your warranty? You're in luck, as Ben Heckendorn found a nifty way of checking if your Xbox 360 will be prone to the dreaded Red Ring of Death, or not.

The steps involve letting your unit stand upside-down, so you'll be able to see all the little holes underneath the Xbox. The get your digital camera with a flash (or a mobile phone with a built-in camera and a flash) and just stick the lens at the bottom of the unit. You should be able to see what lies beyond the holes, without having to void the warranty by opening it.

If your unit has one of the new heatsinks, you'll be see a dark object just beside the DVD player. If your new unit is not that blessed, you'll just see an ominous, empty void.

This method certainly is a big help for those who really want to get a piece of Xbox 360 gaming heaven, but are worried about getting the ring of doom. Of course, you could always check the manufacturer's date instead, but this method will definitively tell you if your Xbox has the new heatsink or not.
