Ah yes, technological advancement! Stereoscopic 3D tech is now confirmed to head for the PS3 and Mac platforms, care of Next3D. They're going to release their 3D movie player software for free, right about the same time they launch their 3D movie service. Some of you have seen it in action as a preview back in CES and GDC, but now it's set in stone. Just as long as your TV is 3D-ready and you got those Shutter glasses, you guys will be able to watch 1080p HD 3D movies on your PS3s and Macs, and eventually, the Xbox 360 too. (They say public beta runs for the 360 platform will begin soon.) Unfortunately, no dates were given by Next3D just yet. We'll update you guys as soon as we hear (Sony will eventually announce a PS3 FW update for this, right?) of when you guys can have your very own IMAX experience at home. Related articles:

» Ugh.
It sucks that we can't even use it with our 60hz hdtvs and we need the expensive glasses.

» I agree
As much as I like the concept, I am not willing to spend more money to buy a 3d enabled hdtv. I am quite satisfied with my hdtv that I have now.

» Quite right.
A valid point, I guess. But I wonder if you'd say the same thing if and when the day comes when games can be viewed in 3D. ;-) Just a thought.... this is, after all, one step closer to that kind of future. In a way, yeah, I agree, pretty expensive right now - but we can always hope they'll eventually reduce prices in... err, 2-5 years perhaps? Pretty optimistic of me, but I'm not one to impede on tech progress. ^_^

» Er..
I don't want to watch movies in 3D.
With the exception of those 3D movies at places like Disney World, I really don't get the point.

» Anaglyph would be cool and easy to apply for all those who dont have 200hz 3d ready tv`s
Anaglyph would be cool and easy to apply for all those who dont have 200hz 3d ready tv`s.
Gino D Yes 3d gaming is available right now anyway for pc look up iz3d and get some red blue anaglyph glasses. It`s quite good for free.
I just wish they would impliment the use for Anaglyph for people without the 200hz tv`s. That way everyone can watch in 3d. Unless your colour blind!!
Most tv`s display 100hz these days and people like myself won't want to dump 50" hdtv's just to get 3d capable ones.
I love 3d games using iz3d drivers and I just can't see why Sony can`t use the same principle. The iz3d pc drivers work with 3d shutter glasses 3d ready tv`s and anaglyph red blue or purple yellow glasses to name a few. They all work very very well with this driver. Trust me try it! I think you will be shocked at how many games work with it. Even with just the red blue glasses it looks cool.
come on sony use all the technology available like iz3d have.

I don't see what the big deal is. I already have shutter glasses for my TV and I have all the IMAX 3D movies on DVD. That's a 480i NON IMAX experience. But 3D non the less and it works on ALL TV sets that can have a DVD player hooked up to it.
Haunted Castle is my fav:

Arid kicks @ss!!!!!!

» Gah!! Oh noes!!
guess i just have to buy some really expensive 3d-enabled hdtv with 240Hz refresh rate or whatever (they are just reusing the frames for double the frequency) since I am a colour blind.
Damn, if colour blind is a race, they'd be called racists!

Once again QJ totally screwed up a news article by injecting nonsense.
Hey Gino! Where the heck do you get your information from? Do you even know what IMAX is? Go look it up. Why did you insert IMAX all over this article? This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with IMAX. NO ONE is going to get IMAX by buying into this technology. There is no way in hell that anyone can get an IMAX experience by implementing this 3D technology.
Especially since the IMAX "experience" consists of both video AND AUDIO.
You let us know when you buy:
1. An 80 foot+ wide screen TV
2. Movies shot with 70mm film (even 1080p movies are 35mm)
3. Movies shot in 48fps. Again 1080p is only 30fps and lower. In the case of 3D, 96fps to be displayed in 24fps.
4. A sound system able to crank out 15,000 watts of power.
Stick to the source information bud. Quit adding things to the news.

Not really but I'm prolly closer than anyone else to an imax screen. A Bible Study that meets in a barn that we converted to a movie theater for outreach purposes :) yay for a 200" diagonal screen with full surround sound and 2 subs! granted total power sits at 1,500 so I'm missing a zero but it's still not half bad

sonofken Thank you.
Yes 200hz sony bravia TV must be my imagination.
stressfactor381 I have been involved in 3d for many years.
ever heard of edimensional? Well I do know what I am talking about. You Don`t if you did not know that most dlp and lcd`s use 200hz for 3d sterio output. The hz normally varies from country to country eg USA and UK use diff hz. Like I said I was pointing out that 200hz or whatever don`t matter if they use anaglyph as well for output. Everyone can use it then.
