dsIt's that time of the week when sales figures roll in. The figures make us want to kick ourselves in the nads for investing our money in tofu burgers instead of game consoles. Specifically, the DS Lite which is making a lot of Nintendo's stockholders rich. The mini-mega-seller continues to sell like sushi in Japan for the nth week. We're really not counting how long the DS winning streak has been going on. It'll just remind us of how much money we're not making.

Sony's PS2 is still in there along with the PSP at no.2 and 3, respectively, although sales were down by 9.5% (PS2) and 6.17% (PSP). And some good news/bad news for MS. Xbox 360 sales went down by more than 25%. The good news, the sales of its orphaned Xbox was up by a solid 100% moving six units from last week's three.

  1. DS Lite: 116,941 (up 11%)
  2. PS2: 22,380 (down 9.50%)
  3. PSP: 20,271 (down 6.17%)
  4. GBA SP: 2,421 (up 5.31%)
  5. Game Boy Micro: 1,660 (down 3.15%)
  6. Xbox 360: 1,287 (down 26.16%)
  7. Gamecube: 638 (down 2.30%)
  8. DS Phat: 130 (down 52.38%)
  9. GBA: 37 (down 67.57%)
  10. Xbox: 6 (up 100.00%)
Now excuse us while we check the tofu sales charts.

 » MS is king!!!

You are correct shortboy, that 100% increase is nothing short of incredible!!!

Not only that, but they look poised to take that #5 position away from the Game Boy Micro just any day now, which will prove their "Next-Gen" system to be a shocking success that took the console world by storm!!!!

The ones who care about the Japanese are the ones investing in Nintendo stock or even Nintendo products. Better sales in Japan means more Japanese support for games. The great sales have already given the DS way more support from Square Enix than the PSP.

Also, Japan is the biggest handheld market in the world. One or two weeks of Japanese DS sales is the same as what the DS sells in an entire month in the USA. The PSP sells about the same in one month in the USA as one month in Japan.

What does this mean? USA+Japan, the DS outsells the PSP 3:1 every month.

» Oh my gosh, this is so funny on so many levels.

Rofl. Six Xboxes, now that's sad. What's probably even more sad is that the GB Micro sold more units than the Next Gen 360. What's even more funny than that is the GBA SP which is even older sold more than both of them.

Microsoft must be blushing big time from shame now.

PSP fails.

   Re: bob (Unregistered) - 2006-10-29
 » no

I don't think the psp failed. It sold 20 times as many than the 360. It's kinda funny how the ps2 still sells 22 times more consoles than the 360 which is supposed to be a next-gen. the way i see it is the 360 is a huge failure that everyone saw coming, trying to pass regular graphics as next-gen even though my average computer can outrank all of 360's games graphics wise

I was born with american citizenship in one of their non-continental territories that still are not a state. Should I move to continental US as I already am citizen, move to canada because they dont like wars or move to japan because they like nintendo and that makes them cool?

Do you reckon it was just a Microsoft employee who bought 6 of them?

Probably so!

 » Just give up MS

They are never going to get anywhere in Japan, sad, simple fact. They should put focus on the West where it is a popular wanted console.

Kudos to Nintendo, im loving the fact that they are outselling Sony in weekly sales, hopefully the Wii does the same thing ;)

 » just goes to prove...

I guess the numbers don't lie. Just proves all the fanboys out there that they are wrong. Nintendo is still in the fight... I think the Wii will also open a lot of eyes too, especially since the PS3 is so limited in supply. Parents during the christmas season looking to get something for their kids may very well buy the Wii if the PS3 is sold out. It's not always what's the best, it's what's available.

We talking about handhelds here. If you want to compare consoles, do it by gamecube x ps2 then see who's laughing. The GBA sold a lot, did the gamecube sell? no.
