Coming to the PS3? - Image 1

There have been rumors going around that Left 4 Dead, a shooter from Valve that's only out for the Xbox 360 and the PC, is coming to the PS3. Actually, here's a link to HMV, where you can pre-order Left 4 Dead for the PS3 with a June 5 release date. I couldn't believe it, in fact, I had to double check everything we had on the Valve title just to make sure I wasn't seeing things.

A Valve rep, however, mocked that listing, saying, "Fantastic. I can't wait to see it." That wasn't Gabe Newell who said that, by the way. I'm a bit surprised that the #1 PS3 hater at Valve didn't have anything to say against the console. Well, I guess it's better that it stays that way.

Oh well. True or not, we'll see in the coming months.

Hey Gabe, guess what? I enjoy pirating your games for my 360! Thanks for making them for the system with piracy!

I thought people couldn't play online with Modded 360s

I agree with anhero.

And Gabe is not immature? He hates a console so makes his entire company suffer? He deserves to loose money.

Pirated that s***. And boy was it a waste of a Dual Layer. PS3 owners aren't missing much. I don't get why people want this on the PS3.

   Re: papajag - 2009-02-04
 » @DarkXCloud

Yes you can play online with a modded 360 but you need to have the games Stealth Patched so that you don't get banned from live.

   Re: BigGulps - 2009-02-05
 » Pirated 360 games ftw!

Yeah Gabe, ya fat bastard! My modded 360 eats your games up. YUM YUM EAT EM UP.

   Re: logicbomb.de - 2009-02-05
 » piracy?

It's just as simple if not easier to pirate this game for PC.

plus it looks much better with a solid video card.

can't play on steam unless you go legit but I guess that's was ixtreme is for....

 » Hmmm

Too late.

With so many good games coming to the PS3 i doubt most people would want to buy this game now, at least i wouldn't (KillZone 2 =D).

   Re: Justingraziano - 2009-02-04
 » ...

But Killzone 1 sucked before, what made you think we wanted more?

   Re: rollypoly - 2009-02-04
 » haha

@justin

that was an awesome parody...

however from what i have read killzone2 is actually a worthwhile game this time around...

they've had long enough it better not disappoint.

   Re: Cortador - 2009-02-04
 » Hmmm

I know it sucked. However, after playing the Beta i can say that at least the multiplayer will be fun enough for me to stop caring about other Ps3 games.

On my first post i made sure not to generalize when i was talking about how "most" people won't be getting this game if it really does come out on the Ps3.

As i said, at least "I" won't be getting it.

   Re: kon_e3 - 2009-02-04
 » it's been rated

IGN gave it 9.4 oh and justin, lol, many others gave it great reviews so I don't think it will be bad

   Re: Woden501 - 2009-02-04
 » slightly disappointed

I'm sure Killzone 2 will be quite good, but I am still disappointed that it will only be running in 720p. If the PS3 truly is the most powerful system, and Guerrilla Games really is a top notch developer then there should have been no problem getting it to run in 1080p. Sadly neither have proved themselves as such yet, but who knows maybe the gameplay will help to change my mind.

On a little side note there are only 5 pre-orders for Killzone 2 at the Game Crazy I work at.

   Re: kon_e3 - 2009-02-04
 » @woden

y would they pre-order from u, I'm planning to buy it at a private store but don't want to pre-order it w/o any benefits

   Re: Anhmeister - 2009-02-04
 » Actually

Guerrilla has said that Killzone 2 will run in native 1080i. While of course this is not an optimal setting. It is making headway. Besides Killzone 2 is probably the best looking console game to date, and is quite close to what the CG trailer showed us 4 years ago.

Anyways, I really can't see the point of playing L4D on a console. Sure, they tried to make the controls feel good, but L4D is not a slow paced shooter like most 360 games and is not suited for playing on a console.

   Re: thebrink - 2009-02-04
 » right

I don't have any clue who guerilla is, but considering there hasn't been a cutting edge 1080i/p game yet for either system (aka, a AAA game like GOW2, Resistance 2, GTA 4, etc) I would doubt it. I've read articles that basically state it's impossible to create a next gen game with true 1080p graphics due to the sheer bandwidth that requires.

It smacks of fanboy talk to me, if it does, awesome, but anyone marching off to buy a ps3, be warned, more than likely it's a damn lie. Microsoft is extremely guilty of this lie as well as Sony. The only way to get real 1080p graphics is with a PC.

OMG didn't see that coming did you.

   Re: papakep - 2009-02-04
 » @ Justingraziano

haha nice callback to a great song. i myself very much prefer the ps3 but that doesnt mean i cant like a good parody of it! :P

   Re: Anhmeister - 2009-02-04
 » @thebrink

Guerilla Games is the company that is actually developing Killzone 2, therefore you would imagine they would know whether or not they could make a game run at 1080i. They really wouldn't state something like that if it wasn't true would they? Either way, the 1080i setting is mostly for those who are unfortunate enough to have a TV that is not able to produce a 720p image and because of that either reverts down to 480p or upscales to 1080i, both of which reduce image quality noticeably.

   Re: xche78x - 2009-02-05
 » @Justingraziano

just what made you think a second game would be identical to the first?
games can improved specially on sequels where the devs learned their mistakes.

Dear Gabe Newell:

"In your position I wouldn't laugh about loosing millions of potenial sales just because you dislike a console"

   Re: lee123 - 2009-02-04
 » yep

left 4 dead didnt even really get off to a great start in terms of sales, its almost got 2mill sales now, but with a ps3 version that was released at the same time it could of at least sold 4mill maybe more

   Re: FlagBearer - 2009-02-04
 » Wait...

Are there even 2 million PS3 owners? God, that consoles off to a great start.
   by makaveli80 - 2009-02-04
 » We don't need it........

because it would be another crappy port on the ps3. The game was ok but it could have been better and longer.

   Re: rollypoly - 2009-02-04
 » actually...

i think the ps3 needs all the help it can get.

most people don't care how powerful a system is, the just care about the games. this is the reason the xbox failed to gain any real market share, people didn't care it was 3x as powerful as the ps2...

   Re: blkthunda - 2009-02-04

What makes you think that the PS3 need help from this game company? There are way better games on the PS3 than this game.

i like how almost every post on qj these days has people commenting about killzone2, lol thers not even one word in this article that says anything about killzone2 lol. but thats a good thing i guess , n about the L4D dilemma even if it comes out on ps3 i think it will be to late i mean look @ bioshock its a great game but when it came to ps3 not many ppl bought it because it was outmatched by games like deadspace or fallout3... i think the smart thing to do is to release L4D for 40$ if valve is planning to make a quick buck, thers not many ppl willing to put down 60 for a game they could play on their pc a yr ago

   by pizzadad - 2009-02-05

Am not expecting this on PS3 and really I don't care, If I could still play RE Outbreak online, I would, say what you will about it, it was one of the funnest games around

 » Turth be told

1) You probably wont see a AAA title thats in true 1080p on any console other then ps3, and it would have to be a ps3 exclusive... but not for the obvious reasons

2) Ps3 reads RAW data slower then an xbox 360, which accounts for maybe 25% of actual disc space. The remaining disc space is usually textures, CG movies, sound etc. Which the ps3 reads faster then the xbox.

3) Thing is without a large HDD install neither system will ever see a true 1080p game. Chalk it up to "bandwith" or what ever you like. The truth is, on the 360 you would need 9gb of install to run a AAA title in 1080p, and probably 12gb to run the same game on ps3. Which currently isnt an option for xbox, hell manditory instals in general are frowned upon because of their...tiny HDD...

4) People want 1080p games but dont want installs or 9 disc dvd9 games. Which is why the ps3 could pull it off. Given 2 bd50 discs and a 12gb install, you could easily have a AAA game in 1080p.

Like others have said though, atm a cpu is the only real option for true HD gaming.

On a side note, left for dead has been out too long on xbox/pc and wouldnt see nearly the market share because most have already bought it on pc if they were on the fence.

   Re: PS34ME - 2009-02-05
 » the real turth...i mean truth. ;)

1) maybe, maybe. sony made 1080p a major point for the console. ms focussed on 720p, which accounts for the vast majority of games on both consoles (with many AAA titles on both less than 720p).

2) the 360's dvd drive reads data faster than the ps3's blu-ray drive. and that's it. there's no difference based upon the data itself. so ps3 games tend to use install space on the hdd to get around the slower speed of blu-ray.

3) i think you seeing it wrong my friend. 1080p does not depend on hdd space, it's just a resolution setting. the higher the resolution, the higher the fillrate needed, which affects the framerate. on the pc, gamers can choose higher resolutions but the framerate may go down. you can even run the oldest pc games with the worse textures you've ever seen at the highest resolutions your monitor can take. everything looks sharper, yet more space wasn't needed.

same with consoles. every game we on 360 and ps3 can run at 1080p, just not at a minimum of 30fps. so the resolution has to drop to get the framerate up to an acceptable level.

anyway, virtua tennis 3 and nba street homecourt are 2 native 1080p titles on the 360 (both on dvd of course). there are other games but they are xbl games. and both those games are 1080p on ps3 too, and so is ninja gaiden sigma, nba 2k7 and a few others with the rest of the 1080p games on psn (much bigger list than xbl).

I guess it depends on what you consider AAA.

4) i think gamers care far more about game content and gameplay than resolution. 1080p is nice, but few enjoyed Lair just because of 1080p, since thew gameplay just wasn't good enough. so 1080p is good but it's not a must have feature.

"Like others have said though, atm a cpu is the only real option for true HD gaming."

??? i think you mean a pc?

"On a side note, left for dead has been out too long on xbox/pc and wouldnt see nearly the market share because most have already bought it on pc if they were on the fence"

finally, I can say to you .... i agree 100% :D

what about a 4 layered blu-ray...
   by Lifeline - 2009-02-05
» Correct me if I'm wrong

But isnt Wipeout HD in full 1080p ,yeh I know it isnt a AAA title but still?

   Re: chessboxer - 2009-02-06
 » Technically

it is and it isn't. WipEout HD is native at 1920x1080 but the PS3 calculates 60 times a second whether or not it needs to reduce the resolution (to a minimum of 1280x1080) to maintain a framerate of 60fps.

The 360 has about 6 games which are native at 1920x1080, the PS3 has nearly 40.
