Major Xbox announcement tomorrow - Image 1Microsoft will conduct a major Xbox announcement tomorrow (June 5, Tuesday) according to Xbox and Xbox Live Product Manager Aaron Greenberg. The heads-up was given to Gamertag Radio's co-host and co-founder Godfree.

Talking to the host via IM, Greenberg's exact words were "We have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history." Quite unfortunately, the MS official was playing tease as he wouldn't divulge anything else to Godfree.

While no other information on this announcement is currently available, we can derive some speculations if we follow the product manager's whereabouts. Aaron Greenberg is currently in New York to attend the Pac-Man World Championships.

What's interesting is that the original creator of the classic game will also be in attendance.

The major announcement, according to Greenberg, will be made at the said event.

What bomb has the potential to rock the Xbox community?

 » They kept a secrete...

That would be a first. Or I may have missed the big secrete already. Or it's something lame.
I'm guess lame is going to be the right answer for this one though.

But what the heck, here's a good rumor to throw out there. Lets see if this one has any wings:

MS is releasing a BD drive add-on. The add-on will not only play blu-Ray movies but will also allow 360 owners to play PS3 titles.

Now that would be a ground shaking announcement.

Oh and I'm pretty sure whatever it is they are announcing won't actually show up for consumers for another 8 months to a year.

 » thats soo

whack! ps3 is way more powerful and capable than a 360 plus microsoft does not have the rights to use sony format games either

   Re: andreo - 2007-06-04
 » lighten up!

Yeah, um, that's why I called it a *rumor*.
I'm sure that if MS did something like that Sony would buy an ICBM and launch it right at Redmond (figuratively). So calm down.

I do like one of the ideas below about a web browser. But that would not be anywhere near "video game history" status.

   Re: LOL (Unregistered) - 2007-06-04
 » Crzy

"Lot more powerful" is a HUGE stretch... the hardware in both is si similar in power it doesnt even matter. And its pointless to compare specs since they BOTH have 2 different designs... God fanboys are so stupid...

» If you think MS has stupid fans

Look in the f*cking mirror!

$ony's far more concerned with getting you to buy a lot of blu gay movies than making games for you to play. They make more money off the movies. You have the Atari 7800 of this console war, with 2 year older games finally being released for your "next gen" console. FEAR? Ninja Gaiden HD? Oblivion (oh wait that was only one year late.) Well, you can always wait hopelessly for sony to invest some money in new game development.

 » Ahem ...

Rather than being cryptic speculation, it appears that the actual content of this announcement was broken several hours ago by xbox-scene.com

http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EElpAkZFAuiLNeMFGC.php

Combining an audience of approximately 30 million regular users, Microsoft's Ignition program, to be announced tomorrow, will leverage three of its largest services - Xbox Live, Zune, and MSN - to offer customers new music acts. The Ignition program will expose emerging artists to the broad Microsoft audience for a month, with the first participating band being Maximo Park from the UK. The band's first single will be offered as a free exclusive download on Zune, a free music video for download on Xbox Live, and as a streaming video on MSN.

According to Reuters, Microsoft is "demanding exclusive content and hands-on participation from the artists involved." Christina Calio, Microsoft's director of music marketing, said, "We don't want the same thing that is going out on MTV."

Ignition's success will depend in large part on the quality of the acts it promotes. Microsoft is hoping to be a filter for its audience, something MySpace, for instance, currently lacks.
But it's the lack of a filter that many MySpace users enjoy. The ability to "discover" music and recommend it to friends is one of the success stories of the online social networking movement. Microsoft is, in essence, attempting to modernize the MTV model and distribute it over a range of services with which few companies can compete.

If that's the announcement then it is just as I predicted. Lame.

"Greenberg's exact words were "We have a secret unveil for gamers around the world that I think will go down in video game history.""

I don't think Ignition qualifies as something going down into video game history... Plus, I don't think they would announce it through this medium. It would make sense to anounce it through Zune's or MSN's portal...

   Re: FreePlay (Unregistered) - 2007-06-04
» Um, I doubt that. Highly.

Not even MS would be dumb enough to claim that something like that is a "secret unveil for gamers around the world that [they] think will go down in video game history." Seeing how it has little to nothing to do with actual video games.

 » haze now ps3 exclusive

This morning (23May07), Ubisoft revealed that the PS3 is now the "lead platform" for Free Radical's forthcoming shooter, Haze. Originally set for a release on the Xbox 360, PC, and PS3 this spring, the game will now debut solely on the PS3 this fall.

In fact, the fact sheet provided by Ubisoft no longer lists the PC or Xbox 360 versions of the game, prompting some speculation that it may become PS3-exclusive. The UK Haze site for the game also only bears the PS3 logo...

The PS3 will need an upgrade too because it's already showing clear signs it is a failed system and the 360 whoops it in graphics and quality game selection.

You should have your license revoke for being able to use that S/N and not actually use it.

First off the ps3 is fine, all they need is a lower price and a few good games. And which i mean:

1.Haze
2.GTA4
3.MGS4 which will now be release in 07 haha
4.Ninja gaiden sigma seeming how its revamped from the original meaning its better in graphics, combat system, etc. Dont believe me check this link out and find out for your self.

It seems the ps3 has the games to start its comeback.

 » Video Recognition

It may be some sort of next gen Eyetoy-esque video recognition. I quote Bill Gates at a conference a few days ago:

"As we get natural input, that will cause a change... Software is doing vision and so, you know, imagine a game machine where you’re just going to pick up the bat and swing it or the tennis racket and swing it.”

As the similarities behind his concept and that of the Wii were pointed out, Gates responded: “No, that’s not it. You can’t pick up your tennis racket. And swing it.”

“You can’t sit there with your friends and do those natural things. That’s a 3D positional device. This is video recognition,” he added."

   Re: MGSROCKS1 - 2007-06-04
 » Its not Video Recognition

We already know about this since there were videos on youtube.com of the Eyetoy like. The announcement is probably going to be something having to do with the hardware it self. Damn, I hate waiting in anticipation. So curious....

» im sure this wont happen but i can dream....

they will announce 100% complete compatibility of the back catalog xbox games for use on the 360! Like I said, its a dream, but it sure would create more revenue for them from folks that want to play some older titles as well as folks who purchased 360's that never owned an original xbox. The product is already there, why not try to generate revenue and at the same time satisfy your customer base extremely well?

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-06-05

No, the only way to have 100% BC is to include original XBOX hardware in the 360, which MS doesn't own the rights to. They keep issuing updates, so another update wouldn't exactly change gaming history.

Today Microsoft Corp. and NAMCO BANDAI Games made video game history by unveiling the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” — featuring the first new Pac-Man mazes in more than 26 years — available only on the Xbox 360™.

The “Pac-Man Championship Edition” is the same beloved “Pac-Man” game played in arcades of the ’80s but is updated with new features that former “Pac-Man” fanatics and new generations of fans alike will love. It includes new mazes that dynamically change shape during gameplay, six new timed game modes, new soundtracks and high-definition (HD) graphics. Details include the following:
• Classic 2-D “Pac-Man” presentation with a new, modern look in HD
• Six new, timed game modes:
 The Championship Mode. This is the main game mode designed by NAMCO BANDAI Games and Iwatani specifically for the championship round of the Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. This mode – as well as all others within the “Pac-Man Championship Edition” – features redesigned mazes with wide maze walls and a widescreen configuration to better enable high-speed game play. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Challenge Mode 1 (Patience and Reward Course). This mode is an evolution of the Championship Mode. Patience mazes strategically offer fewer Power Pellets and Reward mazes provide a large number of Power Pellets – providing unique challenges and rewards for the player. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
 Challenge Mode 2 (The Darkness Course). In this mode, only the area directly around Pac-Man and the Ghosts is visible and the maze walls are completely hidden. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
 Extra Mode 1 (The Freeway Course). An extremely high-speed mode for advanced players, this mode features warp-speed Pac-Man and Ghosts and plenty of tunnels. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Extra Mode 2 (The Manhattan Course). A mode inspired by the streets of Manhattan — the home for the first-ever Xbox 360 Pac-Man World Championship. Timed limit of five minutes.
 Extra Mode 3 (The Overall Course). A mix of all other modes resulting in extreme mazes for the most devout Pac-Man fans. Timed limit of 10 minutes.
• Xbox LIVE leaderboards, Achievements and Gamerscore
• Rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board
• Costs 800 Microsoft® Points
• Available for download only on Xbox LIVE Arcade on the Xbox 360 starting at 0900 BST on Wednesday, June 6, 2007
