Marvel Universe Online Announced - Image 1

Spider-Man in Marvel's Civil War

Marvel's getting in on the MMO craze that's about to hit the consoles. Gazillion Entertainment has acquired the rights to create various MMOs for the Marvel Universe for the PC and consoles (presumably both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3). Well they couldn't let DC one-up them now could they?

We don't have much details yet on how the MMOs will work, though it'll probably take the cue from DC Universe Online and City of Heroes where you can create your own hero. At the least, we know that the game will contain elements from both the films and the various animated series.

The Marvel MMO isn't a new idea; Microsoft actually wanted to publish Marvel Universe Online but the project was canceled last year. The first MMO to be released from this deal is Super Hero Squad, a casual MMO aimed for the younger folk (i.e., not fuddy duddy me) and will be released in 2010.

Sounds fine. Most days I'm a DC and some days I'm a Marvel. It's all good.

 » Again?

Didnt they announce a Marvel MMO a few years back before cancelling it for Champions Online?

Still, my MMO time will be spent playing Star Wars: The Old Republic :D
