Man, does that thing look ugly next to the xbox or what?
Its too bad that HD-DVD looks like it might lose. They had a significant earlier launch time then blu-ray but its still not something you find in any home. I live in what I would call a rish neighborhood and so far no one i know has a HD-DVD player, some have Blu-ray players but HD-DVD is still no where to be found.
HD-DVD needs to get in gear and offer more movies if they ever plan to beat Blu-ray. Because by November 17th 12:30 midnight, blu-ray will have sold more players in 30 minutes then HD-DVD has sold sinc it was launched.
Gee, I would have never expected you to say that Vietone. ;)
IMO hd-dvd wont fail, blu-ray will. There significantly earlier launch as you put it was no more then a paper launch same as the initial blu-ray launch. So long as blu-ray players cost a grand and people can get a hddvd player for 500 bd will be in trouble. If you take the movie studios into account the only studio that supports blu-ray but not hd-dvd is MGM(owned by sony) while Universal supports hd-dvd and not blu-ray. The ps3 comming equiped wont help the next gen format wars any more then the add on will help hd-dvd. The early adopters to a new format such as this will care less if ps3 or 360 can play the disc. Quality of these players will most definatlely be sub-standard and the early adopters will want this purely for the video play back. You act as if blu-ray has a much larger library then hd-dv last i checked there not so different with the exception being bd discs costing 30-40usd.
if a component of a computer/ console is external, doesnt that tend to be slower than an internal device ... i mean that is logical right ... so if ps3 has and internal blu ray and 360 has an external hd-dvd wouldnt the dvd drive be slower ... i mean its a usb cable ... comon ... compared to a much faster cable ... thats IMO
no an external drive wont be "slower" then an internal drive.
An external device will only be slower if the transfer rate offered by USB 2.0 is less than that of the device (hence slower the device down).
Since the transfer speed of USB 2.0 is way above that offered by any optical storage disk (DVD, Blu-ray, HD-DVD etc), then an internal optical disk drive will not be any faster than an external drive, just more convenient.
You're wrong. The supporters of HD-DVD are, Warner, Paramount and Universal. The supporters of Blu-ray are Warner, Paramount, Fox, Disney, Sony, MGM and Lionsgate. Also Blu-ray has a huge edge with PS3 and the other companies such as Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Pioneer, Sharp, JVC, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, TDK, Thomson, LG, Apple, HP and Dell. No chance in hell will HD-DVD win against Blu-ray. Also you can check Best buys website and see that there are two blu-ray movies out of 58 that are priced at $34.95 and the rest are $25-$30 the EXACT same as HD-DVD.
No chance in hell will HD-DVD win against Blu-ray? are you that confident because its from sony, dont forget look what happened to BETAMAX and the (recent) UMD on the playstation portable aka PSP, in case you dont know NO MORE MOVIES ARE BEING MADE ON UMDs and that was invented by sony, I am not saying Bluray will fail all i am saying is just because sony made it does not make it a automatic success.
