"Mutation is the key to our evolution." Such is the message X-men carries and Microsoft couldn't agree more. Today's X06 might have seen the dawn of the new era for gaming. The giant computer conglomerate just revealed its upcoming Marvel-based MMO game for Xbox 360 and PC. Cryptic Studios was chosen to develop the project.

Marvel Universe"This is a fantastic collaboration. We're being treated like we're writers, editors, artists. We're gung-ho about this project," shares one representative from Cryptic. Accordingly, the studio has been given complete and unlimited access to Marvel's comic book universe. This relatively young developer is based in Los Gatos, California and is best known for MMORPG City of Heroes.

Furthermore, the representative says that they will be paying homage to Marvel's history but the narrative will be based on current-day Marvel comic book fiction. This is important because current MMOs seem to be content with having vague storyline and just pure gameplay.

With working title Marvel Universe Online, the game will be playable cross-platform on Xbox 360 and PC using Live Anywhere. However, the representative declined to comment further regarding characters availability and the number of gamers who can play simultaneously.

Finally, the representative expresses that they wish to change the perception that MMOs should be fantasy based and are just for PC. "It will take a company like Marvel to change that perception. We are designing this as a console game first, and from that perception it will be a revolutionary title," the representative ended.

 » This sounds..

Awesome.. that is.. if you exclude Microsoft. Take out the XBL crap and leave it for a PC-only game, and it'll probably do quite well. Their framework sucks, and it'll just drag down any good game -.- Not to mention.. it'll probably be Vista only. Freakin M$ trash.

u make no sense, u diss the 360 version and praise the pc one, and then u go on to say it will be vista only? the xbox doesnt do vista and neither will the game. and if you hate microsoft so much then uninstall windows and get linux, if u can even use it properly.

» To all the jerks that replied

#2: No thanks, it can be played on PC. Go stick to your X360 spot on this blog, leave the MMORPG's for the real gamers
#3: Granted the X360 does, but it won't ever match a MMORPG on the PC. I'm not saying it shouldn't be on there, refer to my response to #4 at the end.
#4: You don't know how to read do you? All X360 games that will be using their "Play With PCs" architecture are Vista only. And my main PC is a Linux (which I'm using to post this message), I simply have a spare XP box to play games. I praise MMORPGs made for PCs, because it draws a much better attention and quality in a game than on a console (customization, more controls, etc).

Ok I want to start off by saying: yes and obviously the PC is better for MMOs the devs had years to get it right, theres been ton of MMO/MMORPGS/MMOURMOM/ for the PC. But there is no reason why it cant be on the Xbox360, so you PC elitist get down from atop of that egotistical mountain that your on, and accept that your going to playing with 360 gamers.

And I would just like to add as a HUGE X-Men reader/fan that Magento would use the line "Mutation is the key to our evolution" not the X-men, get it right QJ :)

 » could be good

DC is doing the same thing for the 360. This game was already on EB's 360 list a while back when I reserved the other marvel game.

I'd agree, most mmorpgs are better on the pc but the consoles need to have some to get that type of gamer to play. Phantasy Star is coming soon.

There is already a shortage of rpg games on the 360 and if they don't step up the amount, the ps3 will take that market like the ps2 did.
