Official walkthrough video for Xbox 360 spring update - Image 1The Xbox 360 Spring Dashboard Update is coming soon. If reports are to be believed, it will be available on May 7 give or take a few days. The fact is that an update is indeed coming but the point of discussion here is what improvements console owners will be getting. The most talked about new feature is the addition of Windows Live Messenger.

Now, On10.Net's Tin Wood was able to sit down with Microsoft's Group Marketing Manager for Xbox Aaron Greenburg and Group Program Manager for Xbox Live Jerry Johnson to discuss the same. The video of the said interview and demonstration can be viewed via the Read link below. Some highlights of the demo include:

  • A richer Achievement notification pop-up will showcase the name of the unlocked Achievement and the gamerscore value without needing to leave the game to check the Achievements list.
  • Enhanced family settings features for Xbox Live communications enable different defaults for video chat and voice chat.
  • A new Xbox Live Marketplace blade lets Xbox Live members access the content they seek—whether it is game content or TV shows and movies (available in the United States)—from one place on Xbox Live.
  • Updates to Xbox Live Arcade allow owners to quickly see which Xbox Live Arcade games their friends are playing and join in the fun. Xbox Live members can also compare progress of leaderboard scores and Achievements directly with all friends on their friends list. Expanded "Tell a Friend" capabilities make it easier than ever to boast about Achievements and high scores.
  • Expanded "Tell a Friend" capabilities make it easier than ever to boast about Achievements and high scores.
  • A new option in Auto Downloads provides faster access to the entire collection of free, trial-version Xbox Live Arcade games.
  • New progressive download controls provide easy access to optimal viewing options by letting people fast-forward, rewind, pause and resume as their video is downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace.
  • Extension of the background download functionality will allow owners to set their Xbox 360 console to turn off automatically after downloads are complete.

We dont need a browser, thats what a PC is for.

Gaming console, browser, gaming console, browser...theres a difference...

Wow! That was witty! Unfortunately, due to your smartass comments, I will be deducting $20 from the sweaty wad of cash I give your mother every Friday; you know the day you walk into Game Stop to look at the 360's on your way to the libray to use a PC.

You swallow!
I have a widows based OS pc with intel dual core exterme processor and I think there is nothing wrong with adding a web browser to the 360 to remain competitive.

I dont need a little keyboard for the 360, I just wanna play games. Sure when i got it (the 360) at first, the novelties interested me, but not anymore. Whoever buys that keyboard should be ashamed because we do have a "computer" to do the messaging.

there are many people who would love to have a keyboard like that for 360 so that is your opinion

yeah, i personally like the idea of sitting back on my couch, and messaging/browsing on an HDTV that's much larger than my computer monitor. it would also be nice so i could do work on my computer while my friends use the internet. now we just need a damn browser! hopefully in the fall update...

Indeed, my PC is only feet away from my Xbox but I've been setting up at least an Xbox a week for friends. It does get tiresome entering all that info via control pad.

If I could just take along a keypad that would be nice. I can't see it costing more than £20 so it's not exactly going to break the bank.

You can also use a standard USB keyboard so there is also no need to buy the keypad, MSN is a good idea although i would have liked a browser aswell!
