Microsoft second quarter sees 30% revenue growth - Image 1

Microsoft, one of the monoliths in the computer industry, has been extremely prolific in its businesses. From its roots in the Windows operating system, it's expanded to various other industries like gaming and media.

Now Microsoft reports its results for the second quarter and it looks like they're bigger than ever. Their Entertainment and Devices Division - the one responsible for Xbox 360 and PC gaming, and the Zune - saw a 3% rise in revenue for that quarter.

The division's revenues reached US$ 3.06 billion for the quarter, as opposed to the US$ 302 million loss from last year. Microsoft's game sales are also up, with overall sales of US$ 16.7 billion, a US$ 115 million rise from last year.

Microsoft's Xbox and PC game sales were up 35% for the first six months of the fiscal year compared to the previous year. The rise was thanks to increased Xbox 360 console sales, Xbox Live revenue, and of course the release of Halo 3.
