Microsoft's Alvin Gendrano: Good DLC can curb used games market - Image 1As fun as some of our favorite games are, there comes a time we tire of them, and they find a place in our shelves. Or, if we're strapped for cash at the moment, there's always the prospect of selling it to a friend. While that may be economical for the gamers, it could be a potential revenue loss for the devs.

Speaking at Seattle's Gamefest event, Microsoft's Xbox Live Marketplace business manager Alvin Gendrano elaborated on how developers could minimize the phenomena of the pre-owned game market by giving the players better downloadable content. Here is part of Gendrano's discussion:

PDLC (Premium Downloadable Content) helps defend against the used games market and helps maintain your games’ prices in the marketplace. Everyone is aware of the problems with used games. These are dollars which come out of gamers’ wallets and don’t go back into helping us build better games and tools.

Gendrano added that the longer the fans played the game, the less likely the game would be traded in. Additionally, the Microsoft exec explained that DLC was a revenue source that developers could unlock, further noting that games with DLC tended to make more money per unit.
