Really dude, spending 500 dollars on a machine that includes interchangeable harddrive bay, blu-ray drive, hdmi (it means alot if you're into tech), free multiplayer, HUGE multimedia playback, psp streaming capabilities and all that jazz seems pretty crazy. 500 dollars for the 360 means options! Like an extra harddrive! OR Wifi! OR multiplatform games! Damn dude, maybe i should get the 360 for its options.

all of us should care whether it fails or not. regardless of any console loyalties, losing Sony (or even Nintendo and Microsoft) would be a horrible loss to gaming.

without Sony, there would be no God of War, Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Mark of Kri, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Resistance, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, etc. nor would gaming have grown to the capacity that it is now.

fast fact: the SNES, at the end of it's lifecycle, had sold 60 million units.

by comparrison, the PS2 sold, in the same ammount of time, 106 million units (and counting). what does that tell you? that thanks to the Playstation (which sold 100 million units during it's lifecycle also), 40 million extra gamers joined the fray in addition to the 60 million that owned NESes and SNESes and supported Nintendo. Sony grew the market. thanks to them, developers now have the budget to make games like Gears of War, Metal Gear Solid 4, Mass Effect, Bioshock, etc. if it wasn't for that nearly %45 percent market growth, gaming would be vastly different.

the growth is a double-edged sword, but the worst offense that could occur if one of the big 3 went under is simple: no more choice. i don't know if you're old enough to remember, but it was a bit difficult back in the 80's and 90's when the only option out there was Nintendo (all the games were on the NES and SNES. Sega had some decent titles, but nowhere near the library of Nintendo's). the PS3, Wii, and 360 are all the choice we need, as they run the gamut of gamer tastes; the Wii: pure games console, the 360: great online console, the PS3: great multimedia console.

if one doesn't suit your fancy, there are two other alternatives (you don't like what the PS3 is offering, hey, here's an idea: *DON'T BUY ONE*). i don't care much for the 360, so hey, i'm not picking one up. i'm letting the folks that do want one get one, then, if i see some games that actually do pique my interest, i'm there.

not a single one of us should be rooting for the demise of a gaming console. look what happened with the loss of Sega with the Dreamcast. they really haven't been able to recover since in terms of the quality of most of their games. i'd hate to see that happen to Sony, Microsoft, or even Nintendo.

I am thinking exactly the opposite. Everything worthwhile on the PS3 will be out on 360, which I already own, and it was cheaper. All of the Playstation "exclusive" games are *trash* that I got tired of one or two sequals ago. I have no interest in playing ANOTHER metal gear solid, gran tourismo, tekken, armored core, dynasty warriors..... the list of uninterest just goes on and on.

I am loving my 360, the games it currently has, and the incredible potential for the years to come.

For the PS3... I am just NOT looking forward to playing the same damn playstation games yet again, but with better graphics.

That appears correct. But as these are primarily GAMES CONSOLES, it's not really an issue.

The 360 is upgradeable too (all done through XBL) and has been upgraded a number of times already, including the recent addition of 1080p.

So that's not a feature which is greater or worse in either console, since such upgrades are not just about adding features, but also about correcting existing problems.

That's great to have, but it doesn't come for free, and is probably there because the PS3 seems to need the HDD more than the 360. With slower load times on Blu-ray there's a greater need to dump many GBs of files onto the HDD. Do that for 4 games on a 20GB PS3 and ALL the HDD space is gone! So it's pros and cons between the consoles.

Come back when I can create games like that on my PS3! So right now, if anything, homebrew is better on the 360. We'll have to wait and see what happens on the PS3.

Personally, I have an Xbox360 now. Already saved up for the PS3, so I can get it IF I want it. Because they are both probably gonna be some awesome consoles (yes, BOTH!! Shock and horror!!). Face it, MS and Sony have to make awesome consoles, because they are competing for the same market!

In Japan only 3 types of games sell the most, those are Action, Rpg and Sports, Xbox 360 is not selling well because there is no AAA Japanese games for the system, now that has changed the recently released dead rising is doing well in japan, also konami's winning eleven soccer, and with the upcoming lost planet, blue dragon, and dead or alive xtreme 2 being released before the end of the year and good third party support, microsoft has the 3 genres covered and then some. Proof is in the sales, xbox 360 has been selling roughly 2000 units per week since launch, the playstation 2 in comparison sells roughly 20000 per week (1:10) just recently xbox 360 sold 6500 units in a week (1:4) a big improvement in my eyes, why?, because the AAA games are finally coming out. The Japanese are not bias toward xbox or microsoft there are simply waiting to see some good Japanese games on the system.

First of all Sony ps3 does support 1080p via hdmi. Another thing people do have 1080p hdtv's already in their homes (I've ordered the biggest tv in the world) Yes u heard right Panasonic 103" $70,000. So I know that my tv has 1080p/60. I will buy the ps3 soon as the second shipment arrives in us. I first want to see if any bugs are reported and fixed in the 2nd revision consoles. I'm not ashamed of being a sony Fan And I'm proud :-) So you can say whatever u like I don't care lol.
