We know that some of you got pretty excited when we mentioned that Doom 4 was announced back in May. That said, id's Todd Hollenshead and John Carmack got some face time with an eager audience who wanted to know more about Doom 4. Their first revelation? The official announcement of Doom 4, as if earlier reports of the game's existence weren't enough. Hollenshead noted that the game would have its signature trademarks intact. "There will be guns, blood, demons, and gibs," says id's CEO, and we're all glad they'll be there. After showing off a video trailer for Rage (PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360), John Carmack took the stage to tell folks about how good the game would be, as well as his expectations for the game's different versions upon release. First off, Carmack promised that the game would "look like it's built on another engine" when compared to their other in-development game, Rage, which both use the id Tech 5 engine. Furthermore, he added that the game would use "three times the horsepower," making Doom #@%!5 6#@%! run at 30 frames per second, compared to Rage's 60 fps. More importantly, Carmack also said that the game would see a multi-platform release but appeared to stress the importance of the PC, saying that "By the the time that the next Doom game ships to consoles, PC will be light years ahead of current consoles." This gives many the impression that the game ought to look better on the PC than on the 360 or PS3 when it comes out, whenever that'll be. In any event, you'd do well to check back soon. We're sure more information on Doom 4 will become available soon, but for now, sit tight. Related Articles:
