Report: EA layoff hits Warhammer and Madden Series Team - Image 1Although not officially confirmed yet, the grapevine has named the casualties of Electronic Arts' "cost-cutting measures."

Named studios that experienced significant layoffs are Mythic Entertainment, the guys behind Warhammer Online, and EA Tiburon, the studio responsible for Madden and other titles under the EA Sports banner.

Joystiq's sources report that EA laid off Mythic's entire playtest group, half of its QA team, and 21 customer service employees. I don't think we'll be seeing any significant updates to the game for a while. They join the ranks of the devs from EA Black Box, the guys responsible for Need for Speed. The studio was shut down last month.

More casualties are on the way. EA earlier revealed that they'll be consolidating or closing down "at least nine" of its studios, and laying off 1,000 employees by April. There were also rumors earlier this month that EA cut ties with Pandemic Studios.

EA will not officially announce specific studios affected until early February. That announcement is gonna suck so bad.
