Saints Row 2 - Image 1

Here's another case of people crying foul due to the violence and "immorality" found in today's video games. This time, the target is Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), but the game being decried is pretty much the only thing that's new. It's all just the same old song and dance really.

The game has been criticized by the New York Police Department (NYPD) as another game that glorifies the criminal lifestyle. The Grand Theft Auto series, a franchise that Saints Row has been compared to from time to time (well, most of the time really), also got similar admonishments from the NYPD.

"These horrible and violent video games desensitize young people to violence while encouraging depravity, immorality while glorifying criminal behavior," NYPD union boss Patrick Lynch told the New York Daily News.

For its part, THQ has insisted that Saints Row 2 is not a gang simulator, but rather "a tongue-in-cheek game".
