Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Image 1The Official Xbox Magazine has given Call of Duty 4 a perfect score of 10/10. For those who might remember, the last time OXM gave a perfect score was when they got their hands on BioShock.

Infinity Ward and Activision must be happy with the stellar feedback. Maybe some of you guys aren't even surprised. CoD4 doesn't fail to impress. Now, unfortunately, the details and reasons why OXM gave the perfect score to COD4 haven't been revealed yet. Was it for the graphics? Control handling? Maybe the AI?

Though this comes from the Official Xbox Magazine and they probably were rating the 360 version of the game, we couldn't help but post this on the PS3 and PC blogs as well, just so everyone knows what to expect from the game.

Didn't they give PGR4 a perfect score?

» yea but they did give Halo 3 a 10/10

Dont flame me for this. yes halo 3 is great it comes together in a fantastic package but there were a few things that kept me from feeling like it was a 10. Graphics were good but the antialiasing sucked. too many jagged edges in that game even on full 1080P and just a few things here and there in the campaign mode. confusing level design and a few glitches here and there no bigge but not a 10. I give it a 9.75
they need to reserve 10 for a game that noone can complain about........so never give it out.

"they need to reserve 10 for a game that noone can complain about........so never give it out."

There is no game, no film, no book, no album, no anything that someone isn't going to find something to complain about.

Hence 10/10 should be given to games if the reviewers feel that minor details do not detract from the overall quality of the game. Hence those that gave Halo 3 10/10 didn't have the issues you describe, or at least, didn't find them enough of a reason to reduce the score.

There have been films I have seen which I would give 10/10, and yet none of them are perfect.

If you're waiting for the perfect game to give 10/10, then you'll be waiting forever. :)

I don't like Halo 3 - it's just not my type of game. Just needed to get that out of the way before I ask if you even played it. 1080p halo 3? I've a 1080p display, 360 with hdmi but haven't played 1080p halo 3.

So - anyone who is listening ... am I out of the loop? or is this 1080p claim totally off the wall?

Oh yeah - I don't trust reviews - no one knows what I want more than myself. Videos, Demos, and Rentals decide what I buy most of the time. I can't say ALL because nothing is for certain. Don't trust reviews to decide what games are great, good, poor, or horrid. If you stop letting yourself make decisions you're going to become very lazy ... again, maybe lol

Look at the back of the halo 3 box...it's a natively supported resolution...

this is a defo. buy for me on launch date.
I hope there is blood in the game, unlike the last one.
that would be the cherry-on-the-cake (a beautiful looking cake).

yeah cos having blood and guts in it makes it so much better. Im going to go to my room and paint my nails black now. God i hate my parents.

   Re: nuffsaid - 2007-10-14
» wow, so many goths in the world!

games with blood in them are going for realism. Counter-strike,GTA,R6:Vegas,Soldier of Fortune I can easily go on. By your logic there must be millions of goths out there playing those games. COD4 is aiming to be realistic so adding blood would add to the realism but i guess in your case this will make the game a mature game so you cant buy it and the fact you hate your parents must mean they wont buy it for you. Go back to your barbie game.

   Re: Big Daddy - 2007-10-15
 » not necessarily

Blood is exaggerated in video games. Once something or someone gets shot, blood does not splatter out. If you watched the Columbine shootings, you can definitely see that the blood oozed out instead of busting out like Mortal Kombat...

   Re: nuffsaid - 2007-10-15
» I should of explained myself better

The list above are of games which are trying to be real, the point I was trying to make was "adding blood would add to the realism" which it does in those games, am I wrong?

I apprishate what your saiding about "blood oozing" out but its hard for developers to do that right now, blood splats is a simpler solution and will take up less memory.

soz,I didnt mean like blood in a arcade game, like MK.
As COD4 is trying to be realistic, blood would be nice. thats all.

   Re: Eclipze_ - 2007-10-15
 » blood ooze's

out in killzone 2, and it looks realistic as hell, but I get wat nuffsaid is sayn Peoplez.

» so what? it's not like they rate the game well

I mean, the game is looking awesome!! The explosion are WOW. But this magazine can't rate things like a normal mag... They always go crazy for some ames, even random games like PGR4 (they gave it 10/10..).

Anyway, the game will surely have 8.5 to 9.5, but nothing more than 9.5, at least not from gamespot (it's HARD to beat 9.5 on gamespot, only games like GTA beated this)

   by beefsack - 2007-10-14
 » i dunno

the game felt really horrible in the demo on PC, really gluey movement and useless teammate AI felt like they werent doing anything at all o_O

   by Constantinecy - 2007-10-14
 » Calm down people!!

Lets all behave here and do the right thing...yes yes you have quessed right wait for 'real' reviews to come out! All official console magazines exaggerate most of the time. My quess is COD4 will range from 8.2 to 9.2 (very generous i know..).

halo3 shoundn't have gotten a 10/10 maybe a 6 or 7, the graphics werent even HD they were 1152x640p If they gave Halo3 SD a 10, then I wouldn't trust the that COD4 is worth 10/10.

 » 10/10

First I like Halo. Second 10/10 for Halomust be seen in perspective. Halo 3 had 2 preceding episodes and this had to be inline and the "Finish the Fight" to be the conclusion. In this aspect it deserves its score.
That said I do agree that games that get this kind of rating tend to be exceptional as many of them stand alone or present something in a new manner. Bioshock for me was also a great game with a good story. COD 4 I imagine also to be the case. From screenshots the graphics look exceptionally good and from some reviews the Ai is sounding impressive. Sadly scores are never realistic because those that do not like Halo find 10 a joke. I dont like "Viva Pinata" but my wife is crazy about it and dislikes Halo. People are people and we have different expectations from the games we play. If someone gives a score of 10 then I imagine that they are very enthusiastic about the game. Such enthusiasm does at least get me interested and at the end of the day that is what a review is for. If it gave a 2 or a 3 its a simple message to keep away.
