It was a very pre-mature knock out for Britain's Ricky Hatton in his "fight" against the Pacman, Manny Pacquiao, and I say that's a darned good way to end this week in gaming news (the astounding fight, I mean, not Hatton's shocking cuddle time with the floor), which, in itself also saw an intense fight in and out of the ring. From big games' updates to last-minute reveals, this edition of the QuickJump QuickPeek is a definite winner. And we've got it all stored here for you. Quick as a flash, like the Pacman's deciding left hook.
This was certainly a month of pleasant surprises for Sony's handheld, particularly for all the announced big games that the platform has been sorely lacking from the past couple of years. This week was no different, and all it did, really, was to cement the already pleasurable month-long run of good news for PSP gamers all around. In doubt? Then you probably still don't know that Soul Calibur and Tekken 6 has already been confirmed for the PSP. Read on, you'll know more about it, am telling you.Link: PSP Weekend Warrior Needless to say, it was another exciting week for our beloved PSP scene as we held our breaths awaiting for Davee's magical HEN. Alas, it did not arrive on the supposed Tuesday launch. However, that's not to say that we didn't get a bone or two thrown our way. Okay, let's put it at a definite two. First, we had a demo video of the PSP 5.03 HEN exploit in action, and then, just as the week wound down to a close, we got a pic of gpSP running on.... you crossed your fingers hard for this... a PSP-3000! Hoozah! Link: PSP Homebrew Weekend Warrior Probably the biggest news that landed the way of the PS3 is that on the revived backwards compatible MGS4 PS3 bundle back on Amazon. But that's not to say that's all that we had. We've also got a lot of news and updates on your most-awaited exclusive PS3 titles. Take a dive and indulge.Link: PS3 Weekend Warrior Definitely a rumor-filled week for the Xbox 360 blog. Some may be debunked or confirmed as soon as the coming days, while some merit a bit more time to steam and be ripe. What's certain is that these rumors only add up to the anticipation for the E3. With all that's supposed to be affirmed and shot down, are you ready for it?Link: Xbox 360 Weekend Warrior Exclusives are landing a big punch as well for the WiiDS section of the QuickPeek, with news on the direct sequel to Final Fantasy IV, The After Years leading the pack. And then there was also this suspicious 100 list for "Times", that placed Shigeru Miyamoto at a rather dismal 42nd place. Then again, it's not like it was a legitimate list either (it was just hacked) so, yeah.Link: WiiDS Weekend Warrior Apart from the usual growing number of games on the iPhone, what sparked the biggest controversy this week for the Apple's Weekend Warrior would be that game called Pocket God. Play God and torture/ save islanders -- but there's a glitch. Some folks are crying out foul cos they look a tad too similar to actual Pacific Islanders.Link: iPhone Weekend Warrior Industry News: Catfight! Satoru Iwata fights back as he responds to Sony's potshot that the Wii "owns the closet." You know, cos Nintendo's been sitting pretty quietly for a while now. And the whole Microsoft thing is getting old. Iwata-san did not take this kindly, of course, and so leashes out a retort that took a week in the making: "We don't belong int the closet. We are, in fact, hooked up to the TV at ALL times in the living room." Yeah, that took a week. Hey, the guy has to make time to count all the money that's been coming into Nintendo because of the Wii, right? Link: Iwata responds to Sony: Wii is out of the closet, in the center of the living room The finalists for Time's 100 Most Influential People have been leaked to the public. Miyamoto's in it, but sadly, he dropped to #42. Thankfully, this is not the final one -- or legit. What makes this even more interesting is that the hacker of the list took the time to add a nifty little treat (which we're sure Time Magazine won't be all too happy about nonetheless). Marblecake, anyone? Link: Time reveals its 100 Most Influential People, Shigeru Miyamoto slips to 42nd *Update* The big three are gearing up for quite a show at the upcoming E3, we imagine. As early as now, they all got their gameface on (and fingersnaps, too), and good for us, cos it's us who'll be benefiting the most from their competitiveness. More games, more fun, more, more, more! Link: It's on: Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony all geared up for E3 QJ Front Page: For the last week of April, we gave our salute to two of the faces of the new wave of PSP homebrew development, FreePlay and Davee. In case you're new to the scene and their names did not really ring any bells prior to their major exploits this past month, then it's time you click on those links and get a brief backgrounder on them, cos believe me, you'll be seeing more of them in the future. Link: QJ QuickGuide 12 - Who's Who Edition: The free radical FreePlay Link: QJ QuickGuide 13 - Who's Who Edition: Davee And that's it for week 70 for QuickJump QuickPeek. Do continue to come back and join us cos we have a feeling, from here on out, everything's just gonna go for HUGE. Exciting times are upon us, dearies. So hang in there tight. |
