With the success of Viva Piñata, the then-elusive devs of Rare are now opening up some more to the public. Recently, Ryan Stevenson, a concept artist at Rare, Ltd. was interviewed by GameTrailers and he talked about the future of Viva Piñata and details about the next Banjo game. The video is of course laden with personal tidbits like how Rare is still getting used to the fact that they're opening up more to the media, among other things.

With regards to a sequel to Viva Piñata, he mentions that they are going to continue on with the series, although they are still working on what's gonna be new in the game's sequel. The concept artist also mentioned that he has been working on a new game for the Banjo series.

He divulges that the next Banjo outing is still going to be part of the series and it won't be a new one - which means that all the characters you've grown to love will still be in the game, but he wouldn't reveal if Gruntilda would be back. There was also a section about what happened with Stop 'N' Swop. Anyhow, we'll quit babbling and let the vid speak for itself.

Banjo has a huge fanbase, if Rare get this right it should be a big seller even a console seller.

 » Agreed

Having said that, look what they did with Perfect Dark. It isn't exactly a console seller. I'd want Banjo to look like it does on the N64 just in HD with more detail. If it looks anything like Banjo does in that trailer then i'll be disappointed, his face looks too angular. If you compare the CGI renders of the N64 version to how the trailer looks, you'll see what I mean.

Perfect dark was a rush job for the console release I actually like it a lot anyway you cant go by early trailers they are just testers and I think you will find that if Rare thinks it is to angular they will change it, or else maybe they want to try and add something new for the much more powerfull machine.

 » I think

MS should start thinking like Publishers with Rare and push stuff out for them and Nintendo. I mean really Rare is a Nintendo developer anything they make Nintendo people love and will buy countlessly. Which is why they put Diddy Kong Racing out for the DS. If MS wants to really make some money and a large fanbase they should get Banjo on the 360 and Wii. These guys are out for money and putting Rare stuff out on 360 and Wii along with DS Microsoft could be getting a nice chunk of change.

Thing is I think that would have to work both ways i.e Nintendo would have to release an equal amount of Big games for the 360 (which would also get Nintendo some money and a large fan base of 360 owners) or else it would seem like MS are just supporting a rival console without the same being done to theirs and I shouldnt think that will ever happen.
