John Riccitiello, EA CEO - Image 1John Riccitiello may be Electronic Arts' "Mr. New IP", but that doesn't mean the publishing giant will do away with sequels and franchises. In fact, the EA CEO is still gung-ho about maxing out their new IPs' financial potential.

So far, Riccitiello has singled out Spore (PC, Wii, DS, Mac, Mobile) as one title that's just itching to be turned into a franchise. Two expansion packs for the game have already been confirmed to be coming in the next six months.

During a recent earnings call, he also mentioned that Dead Space (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and Mirror's Edge (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) can be expected "to come back in one way, shape or form."

Pandemic's Mercenaries franchise is also on the list. "[As for] Mercenaries 2 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) -- there will be a Mercenaries 3. And if I can have anything to do with it there will be a Mercenaries 10," Riccitiello added.

Now this may bother those of us who have gotten tired of EA's past practice of pumping out a shoddy sequel every year, but according to Riccitiello, EA is not likely to do annual sequels for their new IPs. Sounds good to me, John. I just hope EA doesn't disappoint.
