Grand Theft Auto 4's Niko Bellic - Image 1Rockstar Games just sent out a statement regarding the edits made on Grand Theft Auto 4 (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3) to earn the Australian Office of Film and Literature Classification's (OFLC) MA15+ rating, reassuring fans of the series in Australia that it will still get the entire package. The developer did not specify what was removed from the Australian version, but promises Aussie gamers the same quality as other iterations of the game.

A few days ago, many followers anticipating the release of Grand Theft Auto 4 frowned when news broke out about Rockstar making a tamer version of the game in accordance to the guidelines of a country without an R18+ rating for video games. After all the ruckus, here's what the developer had to say:

While there are some minor differences between the Australian and US/EU versions, they are not significant and we do not believe they take away from the level of scope and detail that make GTA IV such an incredible experience.

Rockstar stressed that it won't release Grand Theft Auto IV if quality was compromised. For now, GTA's creators want gamers to voice out and tell Australian politicians that the OFLC needs an R18+ rating, else games will continue to be edited as necessary.
