Grand Theft Auto 4 - Image 1If you picked up a copy of Grand Theft Auto 4 (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) and have found that you've been experiencing the freezing problems, take heart. Rockstar Games already knows about the problem and the developers are working on a fix as we speak.

Be that as it may, the customer service representative which Kotaku contacted said that they don't have an ETA on the release of a fix for the problem. In the meantime, you might want to try some of these solutions which have allegedly helped some customers with the problem:
  • Set the video settings to 720
  • Update the system to the latest firmware
  • Turn off the auto save function and the controller vibration setting
Oh well, it looks like we're going to have to wait a little longer for a fix to come out. We're going to be keeping a close tab on this so keep checking back here for more updates.

 » hmm

I haven't had any issues with the XBOX 360 version. I wonder if the reports of it freezing on the 360 are legit. Anyway I'm sure they'll have a fix for the PS3 soon.

Ive had no problems thankfully...

?v?v?v?
But I thought I'd read all over the place that there was an optional 5min download for both the 360 and PS3 versions to optimize gameplay. Is that wrong? cuz I canNOT find any such thing anywhere in the the game menus. Am I crazy? ...please info please...

I have an x360 and it freezes up every time it play it sucks have this new game i cant even play. i might be able to play for maybe 5 min max. i have even tried a new copy still nothing.

 » 5 Min install

The install is for PS3 only as i understand it and im sure i'll be corrected if im wrong the install is only possible on the PS3 because every PS3 has a hard drive were as you can buy 360's without a hard drive so Rockstar had to have the 360 version run from disk so all 360 owners could play it out of the box. I dont think it make's much if any difference to the how the game runs, a friend who knows about these things told me the install would just mean the PS3 version would be more stable.

Collectors Ed of 360. Game froze at the Vlad/Chinese Shop mission. Called up GameStop and that's been happening. PS3 versions just had problems with certain models. (ie. 60 gig systems would freeze) GTA has always been full of bugs. Sure, less in this version. Just like there were less bugs in Oblivion compaired to Morrowind. But they still exist. If you paid for it, just get it exchanged. -V

I have the 60 gb PS3 and not a problem yet and i have put 7 hours into it. Maybe its just a few on the PS3 and a few on the 360 or maybe its just a matter of time for all of us. Who knows....

yeah. i have the 60 gig model too, as well as a nmber of my friends, but the game froze about 10 times on mine. A majority of the times, though, it went back to normal after about 30 seconds. But during cutscenes it would just freeze up and never go back. Any information regarding a possible patch? cause this is pissing me off :(

Did you try reinstalling the game data? I had a lot of freezing but its been perfect after the reinstall.

» No Freezing But Intermittent Online Mode

I've got the 60GB PS3 (UK Launch) and the Special Edition of GTA IV.

Apparently these are most likely to freeze, but mine hasn't frozen once... yet.

Multiplayer was fine for me at first but now I can never connect.

Rockstar need to spend their time looking into the freezing issues and online server issues rather than thinking about releasing GTA2 on PSN and XBL.

I don't know where everyone is getting this freezing stuff, it seems like most of the freezing happens Europe side and not in the US. I have a 60gb and I have yet to have any freezing errors (although I did somehow glitch partially through the street outside of the pool hall in the first island that caused my car to flip). for those that have the problem I hope things get fixed.

Mine has frozen 2wice, and the online multiplayer has never worked, always says cannot connect to server or something like that. 4 of my mates have the game on the ps3 too and they have had 2 or 3 crashes each too... seems like its happening all around for 60gb and the newer ones...

I am not bullcrapping you puttin down the ps3... i love my ps3 but its a bit annoying bout the crashes and online play. ROCKSTAR! SORT IT OUT!!!

 » freeze fix

i am pretty sure this is the final solution to stop gta4 from freezing if your game freezes in the middle of the game or in an intro video and son... All you need to do is just sign out of the playstation network before you start the game, but you won't be able to play online

 » not online

im only online on dialup pc does anyone know if i can download the fix on a cd then install it on my ps3????
