Xbox 360 - Image 1 It's been quite a while since we've grabbed hold of word about the Microsoft Xbox 360's upcoming versions. We've all read stories about new units codenamed Jasper and Valhalla before, and now we're hearing some reports about who'll be manufacturing the new chips.

According to Xbitlabs, IBM and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) got orders from Microsoft to produce new 65nm chips for the Jasper. The new Xbox 360 version will reportedly use ATI Xenos graphics and memory controller hub (GMCH) made using 65nm process at TSMC.

This will put the graphics unit of the Jasper to the same size of the 65nm CPU employed by the Falcon version of the Xbox 360 released late last year. If you can recall, the GPU stayed at the 90nm scale in that version of the console.

The Xbitlabs report also suggests that the successor to Jasper codenamed Valhalla will shrink the chips even more, perhaps to the 45nm scale in the years to come. It's assumed that this will result in less electricity consumed, less noise produced, and less complex cooling systems for the Xbox 360.

Microsoft, as expected, did not comment on this rumor. Still, it's good to see some hope that the reduced failure rate of the Xbox 360 will go even lower. We'll give you more updates as they come.

although I really can't say that it will stop RROD for sure but less power consumption is always a good thing ;)

If this rumor holds true, then it's a great step for Microsoft if they want to keep the 360 going strong.Though it's not a sure-proof solution, the best way to keep existing 360 consoles running is to take care of it, and have it in a place where it won't get choked by dust and such,
I hope this'll hold true when I decide to pick up a 360 D:

Go back playing your PS3, someday that will FAIL just like PS2 and xbox. they both doom depend on their age.

It's like buying a computer but yet you have to keep up the technology to experience of it within 5 years.

The only reason why I did not get a ps3 because it looks ugly to me and dont like the way you feed the cd because I had bad luck with them in my cars. Yes its great system with the graphics and all FTW over 360. but I really don't give a ***** about the graphics or how good of a tv.

you my friend is just a greedy some of a ***** that likes to run your mouth about the 360 and the wii.

What microsoft is trying to do is make video game systems that America never did before.

you just bashing over American technology over Japanese Technology. Japanese knew their ***** but US AMERICANS are a tad bit delay.

So go ahead bash about 360, go watch your stupid amine porn on your play station 3 system. Really its about peoples TASTE of games.

wii is great for Kids under 12.
360 is all about Action, Combat, Military etc. (Hello Gears of War and halo 3)

PS3 is for RPG and your anime cartoons that you will never see in real life.

Sony is more into CHINESE Stuff. Microsoft is American Region. wii is for KIDS THAT LIKE POKEMON.

but who cares all the games thats going to be from ps3 is going to be on the 360 expect for EXCLUSIVES and only ps3 I think is EXCLUSIVE is MGS...thats all? oh killzone blah.

yet I dont see nobody complan about PS2 disc read errors, old xbox tray wont open, Gamecube is...well alive (blink blink). It's just age and poor technology money.

ok engouh with the damn rant, Microsoft will fix RROD, bare with them its their 2ND CONSOLE and unlike sony and nintendo it's their 3 and 4th Home entertainment console.

Microsoft is all over the place in our computers, in our ears and in our homes, why buy something else that will not compatibility with your Media Center and maybe your Zune. I guessing your a windows vista hater as well.

Give'em a break atleast they are doing something to put a stop on the RROD. atleast its not that bad like lunch day.

I not saying that xbox 360 fanboy, I am a happy owner of the PSP and sometimes the PS2 if it will ever boot my gameshark and ps1 games.

anyways never own a 360 or play much with it. I already saw how prevous owner of a PS is so maybe I will learn a thing or 2 or learn my lesson never to buy one again.

So I going to buy one for a game I really like GEARS OF WAR and HALO 3 which you won't see on PS3. MGS already left me after Sons of liberty and that was great storys. So I not really hype with the MGS4 because looks like to me COD4 to me which I had engouh with army games.

 » you know what, houaruto

It is a ticking time bomb but that makes the gaming experience so much cherish-able and exciting!!! Every minute I spend with my 360 does feel like quality time. For my Wii, PS2, PSP, NDS I just turn it off and meh . I end up paying extra care to my 360. Bottom line is I am glad to buy another 360 if mine is finally broken but I won't spend a penny on a new PS3
