ps3 - Image 1Are you ready for another round of price cut rumor? A trusted industry source from Ars Technica revealed that both the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be getting its fair share of price cut this fall.

According to the report, Sony is cleaning inventory on the 80 GB model PS3's in the weeks ahead gearing up for its final plan in 2009 to finally drop the price of the hardware and launch the rumored PS3 slim this fall.

On the Microsoft side, the Xbox 360 Pro will be replaced sometime in July or August by the
current Xbox 360 Elite model following a September price cut and making the Elite the new Pro-level system.

» Fall price cut perfect time for ps3!

The Fall sounds like a perfect season for a PS3 price cut with all the October games coming out like Demon Souls etc etc. But I already have on :)

» this is all based on speculations

first off, we don't even know if the ps3-slim is coming out this fall, it could be a while before we even see a price drop i'll be honest after that e3 flap that was suppose to be assured the ps3 price drop, you know know how cheap sony is! it's just a pain in the brain that they are in it for the money, not the fame really, it's really more for the money

if they're so into it for the money, why they losing it when people purchase their system?

 » Dorkus...

They lose money for every console sold, they have been since launch. They're selling us high-end hardware at low-end costs, how are they "cheap"? lol genius

i dunno, i never looked at video game economics before, you can see me @ dorkus1983 ps3

not till recently Microsoft has been breaking even with every 360, but you are right about Sony losing money. But then also they get money from all their games sold and their licensing with 3rd parties

you really are an idiot if you think that some companies "are in for the fame" because the main purpose of a company is to make profit and survive and fame is only used to make more money

I agree that the PS3 might get a price cut, but i don't think the 360 will get one. The pricepoint is already very low. They might upgrade their models, though. The arcade comes with a standard 20 or 60 GB HDD or something like this.

ANOTHER price cut??? dam. lol.

» Am I understanding this right?

The cheapest 360 console is still going to be 200 bucks? They're just making the higher level unit 200 dollars and getting rid of the current 200 dollar one? Why couldn't they just release one unit?! gah!

   Re: rollypoly - 2009-06-27
 » nope

dropping the $400 unit to $300, and getting rid of pro altogether... according to this source anyway.

hopefully that means the rumored TB 360 (more likely 500GB) will replace the elite, with a moniker something like "Ultra"

Terabyte 360 hdd?
I doubt the 360 could handle a hdd that size without problems

   Re: damonous - 2009-06-28
» Considering that there are no 1tb 2.5" drives yet

I doubt that the "TB 360" rumor is anything more than that. Best guesses are that 1tb 2.5" drives might hit NEXT year (2010). So the "360 Ultra" would have to be 500gb or lower. But, considering that Micro$oft loves to use the hard drives to soak people for cash, ...I doubt they're going to give-up that golden egg. I would guess 360 gets nothing greater than 250gb as a pack-in in the future (if that), and if they offered a standalone 500gb casing, expect them to charge near $300 for it. :-O

   Re: rollypoly - 2009-06-28
 » true...

thats why i said 500GB is more likely... they would have to do some crazy raid setup to reach 1TB at this point.

i don't plan on purchasing any official drives, i just want them to release bigger ones so i can buy my own dirt cheap (comparatively) and swap out my hacked 120s...

 » hmmmm

I don't see what the fuss is over PS3 (and here 360 as well). PS3 and 360 are well worth the money that is being charged for them right now.

The only system that should get a price cut is the Wii. The thing was never worth $280 in the first place (even from a purely technical point of view). I don't care if it's still selling....it looks so bad for the 360 to be cheaper than the Wii, which should be $175 or so by now....
