Xbox 360 - Image 1Rumors have been circulating that Microsoft will release a Blu-Ray version of the Xbox 360. While a Microsoft executive did say it was possible the company later denied that they were going Blu-Ray.

It was reported in DigiTimes.com that Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek, has gotten orders from Microsoft to assemble Xbox 360 units with a Blu-ray Disc drive. It was also revealed that the shipments for the alleged product will be starting by as early as Q3 of this year.

We have no way of confirming these claims since these tidbits of information were allegedly garnered from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News. However, it might not be a bad move to integrate the drive into the Xbox 360 at this point. That said, there's really nothing we can do but wait for an official statement from Microsoft regarding this.

 » Meh...

Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are both wastes of time, money and plastic. Movies and games will be most likely be download only by the next generation. Even Sony admitted that they'd be surprised if PS4 had an optical disc drive. Meaning that systems will be just a big hard drive with controllers is the future. Go regular old DVD's!!! -V

or else they still have to have a DVD-9 counter part game release. You can't just simply phase out ALL the existing Xbox360 and you cannot bare the same xbox360 label but offer a game in bluray only. Or else there will be massive class action. Unless MS offer exchange for all existing xbox for upgrade... not likely. These are simply the rules, so may be the new one will play bluray movies and that's it. It doesn't really affect me in anyway and if they stop production of DVD9 games then I honestly will move on ;)

Well i guess Microsoft will have to pay a good sum of money to Sony if this becomes reality.
