SOE sponsors G.I.R.L. Scholarship Program - Image 1If we were able to find up to seven different types of girl gamers, why settle for simply having the "gentler" sex play games when we can also have them design the next big thing in the gaming industry? This was the general idea founded on by Sony Online Entertainment as it opened applications for the Gamers in Real Life (G.I.R.L.) Game Design Competition 2008.

This contest pits female Art Institute students against one another as they compete for the privilege of receiving a US$ 10,000 scholarship as well as a chance to become an intern at Sony Online Entertainment. In a prevalently male-dominated gaming society, this competition aims to place more female game designers who can steer the development of games into a direction which is more interesting for women to play.

The G.I.R.L. Game Design Competition will run until May 31, with the winner to be announced on June 30. Applicants must be enrolled at an Art Institute school with a graduation date of June 2009 or later. Contestants will be required to submit an in-game design, concept art, and two essays, with online applications sent in no later than April 15.

For more information regarding the rules of the contest, you can visit the source link that we've provided below. If you think you have what it takes to become the next big female developer and have her name in written on the credits of a best selling title, then go ahead and send in your application.
