The console wars - Image 1

The industry analyst firm Screen Digest further extends its reach into the video game industry by releasing a new service called Games Bulletin which provides periodic forecasts and analysis reports. Their first forecast predicts that publishers will be focusing more on the Wii in the future, and the Xbox 360 will be continue to be driven by its strong user base.

Analysis of data shows that publishers prefer the Wii over the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 not only because of its large and ever-growing player base but because also because it's cheaper to develop games for the Nintendo console. They predict that by early 2008, the total number of Wii games will surpass that of the Xbox 360's.

Screen Digest also believes that the Wii will be the leader by the end of 2007 with strong releases like Super Mario Galaxy, while the Xbox 360 will also be a strong presence because of Halo 3 and other multiplatform releases. The PlayStation 3 however, may have a hard time considering the lack of exclusive games.

From a broader view, they believe that the Wii and Xbox 360 will be "look[ing] back on 2007 with some satisfaction" while "the same cannot be said for the PS3." They attribute the PS3's decision to introduce a price cut to their lack of performance in the market.

 » Super-Wii

I wonder if Screen Digest owns a Wii lol! I own a Wii and I hate the bloody thing. The WiiMote is too temperamental - it's not real-time, and it certainly doesn't feel like I'm swinging a sword when I'm playing Zelda - Link swings the sword after I've julted the WiiMote in any direction I like. Still, hats off to Nintendo for trying, as it's good in theory.

On a serious note, I'm intrigued to know how many people who've had their Wii for 4 months or more still play with them! I suppose these analysis companies know their jobs, but Im sure the Wii's 'userbase' does not reflect the amount of sales.

Just my humble opinion!

 » yeah i agree ...

Im so bored of my Wii, have not played it in ages. The best game on the Wii (using the wiimote properly) is Wii sports (nearly a year old).
Im a big FPS fan and playing any FPS on the Wii sucks-ass, imagen an invisible square in front of you, I hate the way you are made to keep the wiimote within this square to look around the screen, if you go outside the square or drop down your hand for a second, your character goes crazy and starts spinning around. I also hate the loading times on games and the sh*t battery life on the wiimote.
I just cant be bothered with it now and rather play on my PS3, when family comes over the kids and the oldies love it, which proofs to me, the Wii is made for people who know nothing about games.
The only game im looking forward to is Mario kart but I know deep down ill complete it in a day, like the last two and get bored of it.

 » This is called news?

Yeah right, the end of 2k7 is jst ps3 exclusives, and early 2k8 is the same :S.

Anyway, DAH! that the wii is better for sales! Still I'm not into it, I dislike simple games, I don't play to relax, I play for fun and brain usage, lol. I need complex games, JRPGs and stuff! And grpahics is still a good bonus. (my wii graphics, I'd be glad anyway, as long as the game would have been my style)

And for the x360, I've got nothing to say, they just said they'll continue going well, DAH! how could they just... die? lol it's impossble... man those news were not really news heh?

 » dont get me wrong..

The Xbox has way more exclusives titles this year but how many of them are actually great games? not many and what is good can be played on the PC anyway. The games listed above are Xbox/PS AAA games for this year (the console shifters for Xmas).

It has been a bad year for Sony with games and delays but I expected this, as the Xbox is using old technology, what is good for devs. and the PS is using brand new tech. big problem for devs. but now nearly a year down the line the PS is closing the gap on the Xbox in graphics and by the end of next year will surpass the Xbox. God of war will be the Ace card in Sonys hand.

Xbox has won this year, I predict next year it will be neck and neck and in '09 PS3 will be winner. As for the Wii I reckon it will go down, down, down as a lot of kids have it and they can only get games for b/days and xmas -lol
