The announcement of a Hellboy video game for next-gen consoles was first heard from Konami back in May 2006. However, news about this game reincarnation of Dark Horse's demon-without-his-horns seemed to fizzle out after that, and it wasn't until recently that updates have started picking up again.

A collaboration between Mexican director Guillermo del Toro and Australian game developer Krome Studios, this new title is set to be released for the Xbox 360, the PS3, as well as the PSP, and is supposed to hit retail some time this year. However, one strange tidbit is that even though this game has been formally announced almost a year ago, the game doesn't even have an official title yet, and only goes by the working title of "Hellboy."

Of course, this doesn't mean that the people behind the game have been idle. Quite the contrary, it does look like they've been pretty busy, as we can see from these gameplay videos that we have from GameSpot. From these clips, we can already get an idea of the overall feel of the game, as well as how combat will work. The videos also show how Hellboy goes about using his trademark Right Hand of Doom, as well as other objects within the game when battling enemies.

So, without further ado, here's the latest gameplay videos for the Xbox 360 version of Hellboy. While you guys go and watch it, we'll be waiting for word if an official title is coming any time soon, and if the notorious head-in-a-jar Herman von Klempt would indeed be making an appearance in this title.

 » Stupid indeed

I don't understand why they would release this game footage so early in the design process. There's nothing there to get fans excited. Running around breaking barrels? What the hell is that?

» What kind of crap is this?

If they expect people to pay $60 for a game, they better deliver a good game not a half assed game where you break barrels! Plus, how come in the last video they have Hell boy executing the button based interactive fighting scenes like God of war? At least do some neat trick, not just wack the monster on the head!
