Sony on Xbox 360 exclusive DLC: Microsoft's been really busy rounding up exclusive DLC. First there was Grand Theft Auto IV, then Fallout 3, then Tomb Raider: Underworld. Kinda makes you wonder if Sony's not doing enough to give their gamers some lovin.

Sony UK managing director Ray Maguire has something to say about that though:

One thing to remember, nothing is ever exclusive. Things get wrapped up for a period of time for a large amount of money and if it's a strategic decision by competition to do that then we have to live with that.

How cryptic. What do you guys think? Is Maguire hinting at something here? Will we see the DLC Microsoft bagged hit the PS3 in the future? I'd be happy with just the GTA4 DLC.

After all, that's what happened with BioShock. Because of their exclusivity deal with Microsoft, even talks of a PS3 version was taboo for 2K Games. But once the exclusivity period was over, badda bing, badda boom. No reason to see why this isn't true for DLC as well.

Maguire isn't through talking though. Of course, he couldn't let slide an opportunity to poke at Microsoft's exclusive DLC strategy:

Obviously, what we have to do is make sure [...] we have the amount of money to invest in games rather than investing in stopping other people making games and progressing.

So I would much rather that we were investing money into making sure that we've got great R&D and we start producing games like LittleBigPlanet, rather than paying other people a huge amount of money to stop people playing their product.

Ouch.

That's Funny.
And true.

The whole exclusive download ***** is a bunch of crap in my opinion. You buy a game to get the complete experience and if you liked the game you could choose for download content which you pay for.

Anyways, I don't understand why a company pays so much money for DLC, does it keep people from buying a PS3 and does it make people buy a xbox 360 so they can get DLC for GTA in the future? I don't think so...

» that should be M$ line

after all they the ones that proved that quote with taking so many "guaranteed" exclusives from Sony with their big fat wallet.

   Re: phiyuku - 2008-10-29
» what Sony said at the end of this article

was a really really valid quote and you people should see what MS is really doing.

 » the point

it seems you missed it. sony is saying they will make a bigger effort on making games rather than making sure others cant play games. sony isnt trying to take exclusives. they make them and get games. microsoft could learn a thing or two.

 » Point?

Well talk about the point i guess the point was proven with bio shock. and i hope they prove it with FABLE THAT GAME IS SOO HOT RIGHT NOW I WANT FABLE ON MY PS3. +p

 » @ackeejag

you dont seem to know the word valid
@brav04 I'm pretty sure its published by Microsoft or Microsoft owns Lionhead or whoever made the game so that one is really pretty much guranteed exclusive like Gears of War 2 is for Xbox 360 or God of War for Playstation

   Re: ackeejag - 2008-10-29
 » wut?

what does the word valid have to do with anything?
care to elaborate or are you just trolling me?

 » @phiyuku

Microsoft does indeed own Lionhead.
However, Microsoft does not own Epic, so Gear could come to PS3. Cliffy just wants it to stay on the 360.
It's similar to MGS4. Nothing other than Kojima himself says mGS4 can't come to 360...well other than the fact that it would need 4 discs lol.

MGS belongs on Playstations anyway. it doesn't feel right on an Xbox controller.
I feel the same way for GTA titles btw.

I'm getting more and more hate on Microsoft days by days

 » Agreed

Especially since the F'd up another game for me first Halo (I didn't buy it but they still F'd up on), Lost Odyssey (Who the hell puts the 4th disc on sleeve?), and now Fable 2 (which now everyone can get the code so I basically paid 70 bucks for a crappy making of CD, and my copy didnt' come with codes.)

No. Exclusive X360 DLC will not be coming to the PS3. This is just a general statement by Sony informing MS that their tactics are absolute ***** and the overall effect on the sales of games because of those tactics is minimal. What it does have is a largely negative effect on the general gaming world because of monopolistic policies such as exclusive dlc bull*****. And sony is absolutely right.

 » GTA IV DLC

has that even happened yet? GTA came out back in spring and i have since beaten and stopped playing it. how does this make the 360 version any better? Now the PC version is set to come out with an entire community worth of modders to surpass anything M$ could ever release as DLC. seems like a waste of their money and the time of people that opted for the 360 version over the ps3 version simply for the promise of extra content (nearly a year later and counting).

 » dip*****s

wtf is with the double standard?

lets bash m$ for having exclusive anything, and bash m$ for not having something that is exclusive to the ps3...

sony is talking like they are innocent of ever paying anyone for an exclusive... i wouldn't of bought a psx @ launch if sony hadn't showered midway with money for MK3.

now that m$ is following sony's lead they/you (do you think for yourselves?) talk ***** like it's a stupid move...

why do all you zealots have your panties in a bunch if it makes little to no difference...

dont be mad just because u wasted ur money on a 360

I think your retarded...
MK3 was on SNES.
if you're referring to MK4, that went to N64 also.
All the other MK games went to various other consoles too.
Where's your brain?

 » who cares

what ever happened to the days when a developer put everything into a game and that was what you paid for nowadays were willing to hand over more cash for stuff that should have been in the original product.
