A lot of folks were happy when Netflix finally confirmed its tie-up with XBL. Unfortunately, those happy days weren't to last. Apparently, competition between Sony and Microsoft is that serious that they can't even share movies. That's right. Word's out that movies from Sony's Columbia Pictures have been stopped from streaming on the XBL. At first, people thought it was just a glitch. But then later on, it was confirmed that this restriction is only applicable to Xbox 360 users. Yes, the embargo is only on the 360, while PC, Mac and other Netflix-enabled on-demand devices still enjoy their Sony movies. Said Steve Swasey, VP of corporate communications for Netflix, "In the case of Xbox 360, a few hundred titles are temporarily unavailable to be streamed via the Xbox game console." He furthered, "Those titles are still available to be watched on subscribers' computers and on TVs via other partner devices, and we hope they'll be licensed for Xbox 360 shortly." The question on everybody's mind now is: Did Sony expressly request this of Netflix or did they take it upon themselves in consideration of the... erm.. conflict in interests? Unfortunately, Swasey would not say. But I know what you're all thinking, uh-huh. As watching instantly becomes a more prominent part of the Netflix service, our goal is to have all of our streaming content licensed for all of our partner devices. We're doing well in this area, but it will take some time before we fully achieve that goal. Today, titles regularly come in and out of license and there is a natural ebb and flow to what we have on license at any given point in time. You guys will have to pick up your Sony films on DVD rentals for now, until Sony says they're fine to run it on a Microsoft console. Related Netflix-Xbox 360 Articles:

Keep drinking the Kool-aid
Exclusive DLC is one thing, at least you can still play the game on either console with or without DLC.
Blocking content altogether like this netflix BS is something else entirely.
It doesn't take a genius to figure this out, just common sense .

» SONY doesn't have a competing
PC operating system. However, they do have a competing console with media capabilities. It would be a conflict of interests to support another companies hardware over your own. It would be like Netflix allowing their DL service to be accessed from Blockbusters online website. I'm sure you can agree that would be pretty stupid right? So you really can't blame them for protecting their assets, they have a RIGHT to.

» Not to mention...
Sony sells computers, and TV's....so to deny the service on those platforms would be ridiculous...
It is a proper move on Sony's part and if MS wants those movies they will have to pay for once...
What is wrong with Sony flexing what little muscle it has ?

That's also like saying Microsoft can't use Blu-ray. They're just being greedy.

I wouldn't say Sony are being greedy. It appears that Sony has - belatedly - realized that if they want to compete with an unscrupulous competitor like Microsoft, they will have to adopt some of their competitors' unsavoury business practices as well - e.g. persuading Square Enix to delay the PS3 version of FF XIII so that the 360 can match the release date.
At that time, many 360 fans hailed this as proper. So I don't see why those same fans are now crying foul? Hypocrisy much? :)
As for Blu-ray, I think Sony would probably be happy to have it on Microsoft's console as well, as that would just solidify their format's position, and bring them a hefty paycheck in licensing fees.

I don't know if these connoisseur's of ***** know this, but current affairs is saying that people are loosing their jobs faster than congress can hand billions of dollars at a time.
When money moguls shell out $10 million at a time to charitable organizations, WTF happened to their own charity at the work place? I'm not saying "go socialist", I am asking about what happened to being "FAIR"?
Honest pay for Honest work.
Slowly but surely, Sony, Disney and Microsoft are taking over the world. If you want to get biblical about it (and I'm not, so keep your beliefs to yourself), it's coming down to unless you where the logo of one of those 3 companies on your forehead (tattooed of course) you don't get to use/buy a product they are in control of.
I just think Wall Street and all the bastards that made the country into the mess that it is should be court ordered to jump out of the 22nd story window of the company that they ****ed away. Just like back in the last depression. Only those guys did it out of try to save something that seems to be lost in today's current business people.
It's called Self "F***ing Respect. God (or deity of your choice) forbid you should show some dignity and do the right thing.
