Remember the other week when a rumored mysterious screenshot supposedly hinted at a new Square Enix game? Well, we got that screenshot now!

Square Enix - Image 1

This shot comes from the Official PlayStation Magazine, but that doesn't automatically make it either a PS3 or PSP exclusive just yet. We've got to wait for more info of course, so right now, it's still fair game for everyone.

True enough, as the previous rumors - which are now proven true by this picture - indicate, the shot shows a man with a huge sword. And yes, it most definitely isn't like Sephiroth. Why do I know this? For one, the guy seen here looks distinctly male. He's standing on what looks like an inhabited town or settlement that clings onto a cliff face. Lovely.

"It's Square Enix, it's new, and you'll read about it first right here," concludes OPM, indicating readers to watch out for their issue next month. They've got an exclusive preview on this game, and come the next issue, they'll be releasing the 411 on this new game. Better keep your eyes peeled for this one!

 » Homage?

The swords looks like an homage to FFVII. Or, it's another frickin' FFVII spinoff.

» just frickin finish FFXIII english version

see subject.
square enix need to focus on important games to be finished asap.
time wasted is money lost.
the sooner they can release ffxiii the sooner they can concentrate on the new kingdom hearts games for ps3 and handhelds.

It could very well just be a picture of "Rapture", SE's next MMORPG. FFVII does not have the exclusive on "great Swords" either.

» One thing I hate about SE fans

They always try to link the new SE games to that of FFVII. Seriously, people need to move on, and out of the whole FFVII scene.

Secondly, anyone who read the description of the man in the image, should already know it most definitely isn't Sephiroth. Come on, why would SE make a Sephiroth game in the first place. That right there, is another case of the FFVII linkage SE fans have been doing the past year.

Don't get me wrong, I love SE and their games, but I know when it's gone too far.

 » Don't get me wrong.

I'm not an SE fan at all, and I hate FFVII. It was praised as a great game at the time, but by today's standards, it isn't as great as people say. I'm not very into RPGs. But the sword in the picture is one of the most popular things in the game, and I just recognized it from there. This reply goes for you too, Ninjiz.

By the way, I'm tired of people who are clinging onto FFVII, too. They just won't accept that a remake won't be coming.

 » ZOMG!

They needz to make a FFVII remake!

Maybe a sequel would be nice or maybe they just need to move onto something else, like a FFVI remake/sequel/prequel

   Re: larz258 - 2009-04-09
 » sequel

AC (advent children), was the sequel, and CC was the prequel, a remake would benice, for those of us, who find the origional an eyesore, but that is pretty much as far as there gonna go with this. Dissidia is Cloud's last big blowout.

 » rue?

the dude kinda looks like Rue from Square's ps1 title Threads of Fate. It would be sick if this were the sequel.

 » Wel...

I'm not an FFVII fan, and as much as I like SE games, they've all been the same thing lately... then again someone needs to do it. Regardless I would like an FFVII remake though I know it'll probly never come so I'm not expecting it, ever.

The giant sword just says it's another SE game. Honestly I'm kinda tired of the futuristic mix of SE RPGs but as I said before someone has to do it.

I hope its for PSP or Rapture as I really dont want to look forward to any game for the PS3

 » WTF

WTF is wrong with FFVII. Have you even played it. The only ppl that I know that dont like it, has either never played it at all, or never played it for more than 30 mins. Hell, im playin it now (not exactly now, but I did earlier today, and about to again) and have completed it about 20 times.

I not asking for a remake, but I think another prequel, like a Sephiroth story would be awesome. I know thats not the pic above, but whatever it is, I hope its a PSP title.

ff7 was pretty awesome. for the haters who don't get it: it introduced an entire generation rpgs, it set the precedent for how to do a AAA rpg, the party system and materia juggling led to another layer of complexity, and THE STORY WAS PRACTICALLY BOOK WORTHY!
ninjiz- ff7 popularized the big f*cking sword
lexio- of course we try to link it to ff7 that guy looks like sephiroths brother, AND LOOK AT THE BIG F*CKING SWORD!
xploren- by todays standards goldeneye sucks, which is why we need a remake!
oh and jagrege- you know what would b a great spinoff? metal gear: the gray fox chronicles.

 »  Mmm

You get people who just cast it aside and want to be different and so they feel that they are looking down on the crowd.

It is really just a matter of opinion, such as VII is placed maybe 3rd in my top FF games. Still a great game, just isn't as legendary as people make it out to be. Love the story, gameplay is pretty solid, but it doesn't sit top for me.

I reckon nostalgia plays a HUGE part in such debates. The longer ago you initially played a game, the more you love it. FF VIII was my top one [Which unfortunately got flamed and put down] but I overall enjoyed each aspect more, the battle system was new and astounded me with the more complext set up. The CGI cut scenes blew me away, the soundtrack was great, the ragnarok selled itself and the story was compelling. Even the card minigame, I spent possibly 40 hours on that alone. Coming in at about 240 hours playtime, I never actually finished the game, as a kid I wanted to get everything and now I can't bring myself to end it.

What I'm saying is nostalgia does over rate things I reckon. If you look back, play something when you were a child, it seemed so exciting, so magical. Getting excited even from the PS1 start up sound, just something about it. Maybe because I never played VII till only a few years ago, it doesn't have that nostalgic effect on me that I want to play it again every few days.

As for prequels, sequels for VII etc. Crisis Core, Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus were all excellent in my view. I loved finding out about the past, then more about Vincent. But they are only feeding the fan base and I would quite like to move on. You'd want to reminisce about some FF titles, but unfortunately you can't, seeing them appear on shelves as remakes or extended parts 10 years later.

Kind of reminds me of Auron from Final Fantasy X.

 » not looking good..

It looks like another bad game from them (surely the makers of infinite undiscovery).

The character looks like he's clothed like any other old game character, and the big studios of S-E cannot do that. They always are stylist or weird or something. I think it's another bad game... but so what, we already have so many to buy... from resident evil 5 to (this summer) white knight story, including star ocean 4, final fantasy 13, tales of vesperia (on ps3, yes) and all the ones I didn't buy (lack of money and time to play) like eternal sonata and disgaea... :'( I lack time so much...

looks like it came from the team that made FF XI. based on the guy is wearing a short which is pretty common in FFXI. i really wish this is an MMORPG. i really miss the FFIX days.

 » ff7 haters.

ff7 was pretty cool at it's time, all though that cool factor has gone down quite a bit. But why must all ff7 bashers/haters always include "I hate ff7" in their posts? We'll already understand that you hate the game from the rest of your post.

   Re: jagrege - 2009-04-10
 » LOL

I hate FF7 haters, no, not really. But I played it since the day it came out, and at that time it was the best thing that I have ever played. I guess if you have the respect for the game like I do, you would feel the same way.

this is no capcom. yet i still think about onimusha 4, when i look at this.

 » arrgh enough w/ ff7 already

i hate anime. story is so predictable, annoying heros, everything is cliche. its like a game about a douche.
