There's something a-brewing in Australia: According to the results of a survey filled out by the country's top retail chains, it looks like Microsoft's Xbox 360 console is losing its grip on Aussie retail stores. The numbers have revealed that the gaming industry retail business in the country down under benefit more from the sales coming from the Nintendo Wii and the Sony PlayStation 3.The reason behind the Xbox 360's poor performance in the Australian market is mainly its longstanding Red Ring of Death problem that cropped up last year. On the other hand, the factors that made its rivals the Sony PS3 and the Nintendo Wii more popular were that the Sony console had a Blu-ray player, while Nintendo's console appealed to the casual gaming market. One of the retailers said that the Xbox 360 sorely lacks something new that would revitalize consumer interest toward Microsoft's next-get console, and that their relationship with Microsoft is the only reason why they keep units in stock. If that's the case, there may be some hope of stirring up gamer interest toward the console: the rumored Xbox 360 units outfitted with Blu-ray drives. The Internet grapevine is abuzz about the existence of such consoles, and we sure are interested in seeing them come into existence. More updates to come! |
